which follicle is ovulating?

from what i have been told, ovulation takes turns on which side of the ovary releases an egg. i have a left blocked tube and went to the RE for a scan today. i was on clomid and today the left side show a mature follicle, and the right side shows an 'almost' mature one. the nurse said to call when my ovulation kit is positive to schedule an iui. how do we know it's not positive from the left follicle release-  left tube is blocked which will defeat the purposes of an iui? Does anyone have a clue? Please? i am paying out of pocket, and don't want to waste my money.

You should be fine then, since you're using a trigger ;-) As for IUIs and blocked tubes, it shouldn't be an issue as long as you have one tube open and there's a mature follicle on that side. It's only when both tubes are blocked that IUIs are out of the question. Of course, you want to make sure that you develop a mature follicle on the side with the open tube, otherwise it's a waste of time and money...but your doctor should be monitoring you for that (which it sounds like he or she is). I know of at least a couple of people on here who have gotten pregnant through IUI and fertility meds with only one open tube. Good luck with everything!

Okay, you seem to have experience in all of this so maybe you can help explain mine and my husbands confusion.
We have tried naturally for 8 months. I have normal clock work 26 day cycles. We went to infertility doctors. I'm 37 yrs old. I have had 2 pregnancies and the last one was 11 years ago. The fertility docs did all the test on me and my husband. Progesterone, Egg count (AHM?), HSG and sperm analysis.  All of which turned out great BUT I have the left tube blocked.  The fertility docs immediately said IVF. Well that felt like a car salesman deal so I visited my OBGYN yesterday.
1st - How do I know which side the egg is coming from?  L or R tube?
2nd - I know i'm ovulating each month and I'm understanding it doesn't matter which side I ovulate from because you can still get pregnant with left ovary and right open tube...???
3rd - They told me Chlomid is only for women who are not ovulating well enough.  Well I'm ovulating according to my blood work and monthly test I pee on.  I've never been told of any other kind of medications or shots that could help....???
We are very confused obviously...

If they're about the same size, chances are they will both ovulate...but you could always ask your dr. about doing a trigger shot (HCG shot) to make sure. Best of luck!

You can ovulate from the blocked side of the ovary too but the released egg wont be able to get fertilized since the sperm cant reach through the blocked tube. Also if one of your ovary showed 0 that means there are no eggs there to release.

I do not know the answer for your question. But in the case of IVF when they give the HCG injection even the almost mature ones get matured. So try to talk to your doctor if they are sure the right one gets matured on its own after the LH surge. If you have blocked tube normally I have not heard doctors suggesting IUI. I dont know why they suggested it in your case.

Btw ovulation on the natural basis is like flipping a coin you never know what you gonn get. But if the ovulation is tricked through madication then both ovaries may release eggs.

Nobody knows what will happen when it come to the egg dropping & you can't worry about it.  You just need to relax & hope nature drops the correct egg.  You can always do IVF also if you choose that route.

Hello, don't have the answer to your questions but the last 3 months my mature follicles have always been on my left side and the smaller ones on the right.  This month cd11 scan showed 0 on right and 4 on left at 11 11 10 and 8.  Could this mean that my right tube is blocked? Or...both tubes? Blood tests the last 3 months have showed that I've ovulated so does this mean that both tubes can't be or do you still ovulate with blocked tube? I'm confused :-(
