I don't always go by the studies - I'm a member of many different on line research panels, where women post their experiences and recommendations.  I don't read "unmedical blogs" (..term..)..

I am a very anal person, and found what you said about soy, but ignored it because it interferes with my Hypothyroidism...not an issue!!

Best of luck to you and everyone!!

I understand what you are saying.  My clinic is known for no hand holding.  You MUST do your own research and be your own advocate.  One caveat on this though.  Some of the information on the web is not true.  Even "studies" that are referred to are not always what they seem.  It is important to know how many participants are in a study, and exactly how it is done before you can say for certain that something works.  There is also very conflicting information our there ie - the use of soy when ttc.  Some "studies" say that soy and soy products are extremely beneficial to women when ttc.  Other"studies" say that women should avoid all soy products when ttc.

Believe me when I tell you that I understand the frustration of having a cycle canceled.  I have had two canceled.  However, I would much rather a cycle be canceled that to second guess myself after the fact if I were to take something considered "iffy" by my nurse.  Now, this is only my opinion, but here is how I handle the situation if I want to take something new during a cycle.  First, I research it on my own.  Second, I call the nurse BEFORE taking it.  If she disagrees, I make her explain why, and ask her to offer an alternative.

My beta is on the 22nd.

My only caution to being "upfront" with the nurses, is there is a MAJOR possibility of them canceling your cycle ~ regardless of all the monies and pain and time put into the cycle.

Doing research on your own helps to gain knowledge that the RE's don't readily give out.  If you aren't your own advocate in seeking information, you usually won't receive it all ~ isn't that why we have these forums?  For those who have already been through the mill and can help others along the road to conception and familial life?

I personally can't thank everyone enough for letting me know what I've found out, and for giving me the drive to go further and find out more!

I am glad it helped you - I personally know several women who swear that one baby aspirin a day are the reason they now have children.  It just concerns me when women "go off on their own" and self medicate during a cycle.  We all want this so badly an are basically willing to do anything that will help. I just think we should be upfront with our REs to prevent any type of adverse reaction.  They can disagree, but they should be informed.

When is your beta?

FYI:

www dot sharedjourney ******* / articles / aspirin dot html

"Aspirin Studies Recently, a number of different studies have been performed on the use of aspirin to increase fertility. Women who had experienced multiple miscarriages and who were undergoing IVF treatment were given low doses of aspirin daily. Subsequent pregnancy rates were then compared to pregnancy rates produced by women who received no aspirin therapy. Surpisingly, more than 45% of those women taking aspirin during treatment became pregnant, while only 28% of those women not taking aspirin were able to conceive.

Recent aspirin studies also show that aspirin may be helpful in increasing pregnancy rates in all women. Aspirin appears to increase the activity of the ovaries, allowing them to release multiple eggs during ovulation. It also appears to increase blood flow to the uterus, allowing for a thicker and healthier uterine lining. "

I think it is very important to discuss any medications you are taking with your RE.  There are meds that can have an adverse effect on your cycle.  IVF is very expensive if you have no insurance coverage.  Why risk spending all that money, going through ER and ET, just to have something go wrong - not to mention the emotional stress of cycling.  I understand not wanting to get yelled at by the RE, but let's face it.  We're all adults.  We can handle a little bit of yelling.

In terms of aspirin, there are mixed reviews on the subject.  Some REs swear by it for all patients, some REs think it is only benficial for patients with a clotting disorder, and some REs don't think it matters one way or the other.  Regardless, they all insist that you stop taking it several days before ER as aspirin is a blood thinner.  Additionally, even those that swear by it know for a fact that one single dose cannot do anything for lining or follicle quality.  Like any medication, it takes time to work.

Good luck to you all

I would be wary of what I told them and what I take - if it's a blood thinner (or excedrin) it will thin your blood, and unless you're a hemophiliac, you shouldn't really have a problem.  I know if (GOD FORBID) this go-round doesn't work, I'm gonna be using excedrin again to give me the best chance next time!!

Ok, so I shouldn't tell them if I took something?

Bleeding test is what they do when they catch you taking blood-thinning drugs to be sure you "won't die during the procedure".....

They put a slice on your arm with a razor and have the bloodpressure sleeve on you @70 and keep on wiping the slice with a piece of paper every minute to see how long it takes for you to clot.

They said they usually won't do any procedure for those over 9 minutes, but since my blood wasn't "pouring out" and just dripping very little, they let me go.  It's a good thing - every time she wiped the cut with the paper disc I was ready to explode - or take her head off - or both - I just wanted the procedure done ASAP, and if it was stopped wasn't gonna be responsible for what happened.....who could imagine one could get so angry so fast...uuuuggghhhh...

I've read numerous places how aspirin helps build the uterus walls and helps in follicle creation, but I really didn't do it on purpose - it was the darn headaches from the Menopur I couldn't stand!  I told the head nurse, and she said why didn't you tell us we would hasve taken you off - I said "because my follicles were growing better than they had on follistim and I didn't want to risk anything"...

So much for doing the right thing (in your own mind...).

Good luck girls!

Thank you for your responses, what is this bleeding test?  Is it required for IVF?

Don't whatever you do ~ DON'T tell them.  It is an embarrassing venture - as you will be labeled the trouble maker in the office like I was and have to endure getting yelled at by the women who take blood usually while they're taking others bloods and you're going through the bleeding test.  I told them if I have to go through this again I'm not telling anyone anything - and they yelled even more, saing I would be getting pregnant and end up dying through the ET for not telling the truth.

Seriously.   If I have to go through this again, I WILL take the excedrin, because it is shown aspirin creates more viable follicles, and builds the lining of the uterus.

I took it and didn't get yelled at but I didn't tell my RE that I took it either.

I did...and got yelled at really bad by my RE.  I took ONE Excedrin 5 minutes before getting my Menopur injections - they had me up to 4 vials, and I would instantly get a MAJOR migraine - so I took an excedrin before hand.

I've read about baby aspirin, but not excedrin, and really didn't think about it - BUT - I was able to form 4 great follies, two of which are now in blastocyst hatching stage.

They made me go through a bleeding test to see how long it took for me to clot - it was 17 minutes - and they proceeded with the ER/ET.

Good luck!

I normally take migraine meds while not doing a cycle.

I have been informed that during the whole cycle, anything but Tylenol can be bad (with the exception of baby aspirin). Migraine meds thin the blood and open up vessels which may or can be bad for the uterine lining.

Double check with your doctor or nurse.
