Extreme O Pains with Clomid / Is this normal?

This is my 2nd round of Clomid (50mg) and I took CD3-7.  I got my LH surge on Friday.  In the middle of the night I woke up in extreme pain.  I thought this was normal as I had BAD O pains last cycle as well.  The pains lasted all through Saturday, to the point it was painful to walk, sneeze or use the restroom.  The pain diminished yesterday, but even today still it is painful to walk.  Is this normal?  At what point should I be worried about OHSS?  Is there anything that is safe to take for the pain, as my dr told me I shouldn't be taking Aleve?

I did have a Clomid check last cycle, and no cysts were found.  Also, I already O on my own, we are just doing the Clomid in the hope that it increases the number and quality of eggs.  Currently I am doing the Clomid through my OB/GYN - so no pre-O u/s.  I have an RE, but I really dislike her and will only see her if we choose to move onto IUI.

No I have not heard of taking estrogen to help with CM, but I will ask at my next appt.  I am taking 2600mg of EPO and dr is fine with that.

Yes, I just keep praying that it will be worth it :)

Clomid really has a terrible affect on the EWCM.  My doctor prescribes estrogen cd 8-12 just to help with the CM. Did your doctor mention that to you?

Thanks for the info!  I weigh myself every morning at the exact same time, so I'm sure I'm not retaining water or bloated.  Other then the pain, I feel just fine.  I thought about the posibility of cysts, as I know that is one of the side effects.  My NP did check last cycle and she said there were none - is it really possible to check for that with a pelvic exam?  I'm almost positive that I won't be doing Clomid next cycle, as I think we are about ready to take a break from TTC for a few months.  Also, I'm afraid of dry CM, while it was watery this cycle, I didn't get any EWCM like I did in January (the one and only time I've noticed any).

It could very easily be a mild form or OHSS - just tender, swollen ovaries.  It sounds exactly how I felt after my IUI and that happens to me every time.  Last time my ovaries were the size of grapefruits!  Many cases are mild and go away on their own, and are just tender, swollen ovaries.  But you need to weigh yourself regularly and watch for dramatic weight gain overnight, as you could be retaining water and this is a symptom that the OHSS is getting worse.

My guess is you'll be OK, and it's probably just a combo of O pains and swollen ovaries, but it doesn't hurt to run things by your doc and see what they think.

It's most likely just tender ovaries, but the thing that troubles me is that you should be getting monitored more carefully because the pain you describe could also be attributed to a cyst rupture.  On the five cycles I did clomid, 3 of them I had cysts rupture (although I am prone to cysts).  My doctor wasn't monitoring me so I blame him.  I would definitely call your OBGYN's office and let them know and see if they want to take a look inside.  Cysts are mostly "harmless" (just extremely painful) because they just go away on their own, but sometimes they can be hemorrhagic and don't stop bleeding, which can continue pain.  I had to have surgery when I was 16 for that reason.  I'm not trying to scare you, because I've had another 9 or so that went away just fine!  But the lesson I learned is that internal pain is never something to mess around with and you should always run it by your doctor.

Best of luck to you!  Oh and in the meantime I know that extra strength tylenol is safe to take!

It is pretty normal to be that uncomfortable. I am on 100mg days 3-7 and today is cd12 and I am having a lot if discomfort on both sides so I know I am going to O soon. I like u also O on my own. I sometimes think that causes the pain to be worse.

Hang in there it will be worth it. ;)
