IUI or IVF

hello ladies,

this is my first time here. everything was normal with me and my husband's sperm count was excellent. this morning was my 14th day after my first IUI. My HPT was negative and my husband and i were very disappointed. i am 37 years old and he is 41. We have been trying for the past 8 years. we have been to other doctors but this is the first time to a fertility clinic. My question is: should i chance another IUI procedure or should we go straight to IVF even though it is still not 100% guaranteed?

PS..my AF was due on the day that i took the HPT. it is now one day after and it still has not shown any signs.

Well, you know, it's not always that typical for women to conceive on their first IUI, so I would definitely keep my hopes up.  The problem is that at our ages, even though there may not be any obvious problems, it can just be that it *may* take longer.  You're right in that there are many women around now who are older than 37, and still getting pregnant, but there is so much that can be done now - IVF, donor eggs.  Don't give up hope thought, because even though 37 isn't young, it's certainly not too old, and it isn't impossible, of course not!
Best of luck for your next cycle, and for sure, ask about the IVF option.

Hi all,
Today is the second day of my AF,so once again I am back on my Clomid course,in preparation for my second IUI.I am not very happy( although I try very hard to be) with the last results of my IUI, because my RE said that she saw no problems with either me or my husband :( The reason also is that I am 37 and doing IUI which are 2 low probability chances of conceiving, but my glimmer of hope is that I have seen women older than I am have their babies :) and other people that are up to their 5th IUI,so I am going to try and be positive for the time being and hope for the best.
I am also going to discuss the option of IVF for my next cycle with my RE.
Luv you people and thanks for your responses *** Lots of sticky Baby Dust to all***

Gosh, firstly, sorry about your negative:0(  About IVF v IUI, it really depends on a lot of things.  I have two children, my son born from my very first natural IUI, at age 32, and a daughter, conceived the first time using puregon, with IUI.  I'm now 37 and trying for my third child.  What does your doctor think?  As you are 37, I might myself think to just go for one more IUI, and then discuss IVF, as IVF gives the highest pregnancy rate.  IUI is cheaper if it works the first two or three attempts, but if drugs are added, it is also fairly expensive after a few cycles.  Does your clinic offer any insurance scheme of their own?  I'm having my second IUI in a couple of weeks time, and I know that if it doesn't work this time, I will have a good talk with my RE, as I know at this age, pregnancy becomes more difficult for sure.
Good Luck!!  I hope you get your longed for baby soon:0)

i would weigh your pros and cons iui is cheaper than ivf. I have started my clomid to prepare for my third iui so dont give up with just one. i know how much of a disappointment it is to get the BFN. I would speak to the doc and see what  he/she thinks what would be best for you. Because in the end only you can determine. Good luck   : )
