The sample numbers I gave 9such as say it was 28 or 30) are just examples. Some women's list would vary a lot, and some women's would not vary.
Examples
39 days
18 days
43 days
22 days
26 days
would be someone whose average cycle date won't have a lot of predictive value, because her cycles are quite irregular.
But someone whose list looks like
28 days
28 days
28 days
28 days
28 days
would be likely able to guess when her next period is coming to the day.
First day of bleeding is counted as Day 1. Keep counting (day 2, 3, 4 etc.) until you get to the next first day of bleeding. That's a new Day 1. Mark down how many days had gone by before you began with Day 1 again, say it was 28, or 30. Do the same for the next month, beginning with the new Day 1 and when you get to the end of that month (when your new period begins), note how many days there was in between the two start dates.
Soon you'll get a list that looks like (for example)
30 days
28 days
29 days
32 days
31 days
Then you simply average, which means to add the numbers and divide by how many numbers there are. In this example you would add 30 + 28 + 29 + 32 + 31, and then divide the total by 5 since there are five numbers.
