Provera and no period!!!

I had an eating disorder ten years ago and lost my period during that time. About a year later, I gained weight (still size 2/4) and got my period back, then I got preg. but I was TOO young and had an abortion. Now, ten years or so later, I am married and trying to conceive. I exercise 5/wk (running 3 miles) and have not had a period in 8 months!!! I went on provera and still NOTHING!!! A was diagnosed with secondary ammenoreah (spelling) and stopped working out for 5 days so far, I am also on another cycle of provera. I am SO nervous that my period will not come back and I will be unable to get pregnant. Does this mean I can't work out again?? Does this mean I am infertile???? My FSH hormone was fine but my estrogen was low. Does anyone have any advice for me :(  I have been an emotional mess!!!!

hello just thought i'd add another positive comment about no periods, a friend of a friend who was a runner, very little fat and hadnt menstruated for 2-3 years, well she was feeling alittle unwell, this was some months ago and found out she was 2 months pregnant, baby due september. ofcourse I know periods usually mean you are ovulating and its better to be having them but dont give up as our bodies can ovulate randomly without ANY help from any drugs. we can only afford this cyle of ivf because my beloved dad who died earlier in the year unexpectantly  left us some money. its been a rollercoaster year but hopefully maybe some happier news awaits us. best wishes to you and keep me posted with any progress lots love melissax

That is such comforting news! I have been off the pill since January and have not used any form of birth control and have not gotten pregnant yet. I say yet with positive thinking! I have control over my eating now and consume what I think is a good amount of nutrition now. I have however moved the eating issue into an exercise issue so now working out now is tough but worth it if it means a baby! I cannot afford the IVF route so I am hopeful that my period will come and I will menstruate again. I thought without menstruation pregnancy was impossible so THANK YOU for the hopes! Congrats on getting a hold of your ED!!!

hello, firstly i am a little similar to yourself in the fact i have had an eating disorder for years and now just control it. My periods never came back but I conceived Alfie naturaly, mr dr said I just threw out a randon egg and was fertilized at the right time, I didnt have a period and got pregnant, it can happen. Anyway that was 2 years ago and we've been trying again since, still don't have periods but never took anything to bring one on like you, my weight is 6.5 stone but i am only 5ft 2". We have now gone down ivf route and was put on the pill, that gave me the bleed thay nees to start me on the medication. see if the second round of provera works and if not talk to the dr about an alternative, there are drugs that will stimmulate ovulation, don't give up you may be presently surprised even if you arent menstruating, lots love melissax

I have to ask my doctor about the exact levels. I agree with you about a nutritionist. I have a sandwich daily, cereal and not the bets dinners (usually tasti delight frozen yogurt) and snack on frozen foods. I cut back on exercise and am NOT going to work out until I get my period back. It is just challenging stopping the running when it was my peace of mind,

My day 3 was low but not excessively low, I will find out. Thanks!!!

I would see a nutritionist to make sure you're getting all the nutrients you need. A friend of mine was an excessive exerciser (and a bit too thin) and after she gained 10 lbs and cut back on the exercise she went on to have 3 kids. I don't think she quit running completely, but definitely cut back.
Also, was it your day 3 estrogen level that was low?  What was the level? I'm curious b/c mine seems low at 20 but my RE says lower is better and he is not concerned at all...
