Question re progesterone supplement i have been prescribed

Hello everyone!
I am new here, I hope that you don't mind me posting.
I had a missed miscarriage in October followed by a D&C, following that I bled on and off for a month and then got my period.
My period has since been very heavy and has quite a bit of clots in it. I also get spotting at randomn times in my cycles.
I went to see the doctor today and she prescribed some progesterone tablets to sort out my period.

However she has told me to take them from day 15 until day 25 of my cycle. My cycles are 28 days and I OV either CD16 or CD17.
I have read that you shouldn't take progesterone before ov as it can block ovulation and since I desperately want to get pregnant again i don't want to take this risk.
Can anyone shed some light on why she is wanting me to take this before OV?
Thank you!
Kate

i am currently 5.5 weeks pregnant with our first child. my hormone levels were 13.7 and 12....my doctor says this is "low normal" but he would like to see it higher. so he put me on 100mg of Prometrium 2x's a day orally until 12 weeks to increase my levels. However, I have some concerns: 1. It says right on the bottle not to use if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant. 2. I am afraid of all the side effects. After reading I see that it can be taken vaginally. If anyone has taken it this way does it limit the side effects? Please advise. I am nervous.

Hi Dianne,
Thank you for answering!!! the product is duphaston and i have been prescribed 10mg per day... I am really nervous to call back the gynae because i know that she hates people looking things up on the net!
Do you think that it could interfere with ovulation?

I was told to take my progesterone supplement - prometrium 200mg orally - from when I ovulated until I got my period or was 12 weeks pregnant.  Are you charting your BBT to tell when you ovulate?  I'd double check with your office on when to start and make sure to get specifics.  For a 'regular' or 'normal' cycle you would ovulate on CD 14 or so - starting on CD 15 would fall in line with that. But if you don't ovulate until CD 16 or so - get clarification.  Good luck!
