TTC, lap done, on metformin and synthroid

I am 30 years old and me and my husband have been trying to conceive for 1 year now. Started with 50 mg clomid and went up to 150 mg. changed 2 doctors in the course. Had 1 IUI with Clomid done in Feb'08. Changed to 3rd doctor after that..and he switched me to Letrozole in Mar and did an IUI with it. He also put me on Metformin and Synthroid and said I have mild PCOS. Got laparoscopy done in Apr and found level 2 endometriosis. Have done all the tests from blood work to HSG and all are normal. Tested my husband too and he too is fine. I am not sure if we should try on our own without Letrozole or should go for IUI with injectables. Also, will doing intercourse every day help or every other day? Doing it in the morning or night is more helpful? Please help.

Hi Amy,
Thanks a lot for your reply. Apr-end/May was my first month that I could try getting pregnant after the lap was done on Apr/4. I took Letrozole and I went in for an ultra sound (in May, this month) on cycle day 12. Doctor found 4 big follicles and gave me ovidrel shot to time ovulation and intercourse. Would this be sufficient to assume I am indeed ovulating? I got my period this past weekend.
This month/cycle, my husband suggested to try naturally without Letrozole and ovidrel as he thinks my body has endured lot of medications along with one surgery in the past year.
It did help reading about your case. I feel healed from inside post surgery but I don't think I am 100% ready to go for injectables just now. My doctor suggested to get OvuQuick testing kit and I got it from amazon.com. I will be using it this month.
I think BFP means Big Fat Positive (sorry I am new to these terms). I am sorry to hear you lost it. I wish you luck for this cycle and hope you get a positive result. I would also suggest you to take walks everyday and watch your diet closely because of PCOS. I am doing the same after reading other posts on Metformin/PCOS.
Also, prior to the Lap I too used to have terrible pain during bowel movement and a few hours on the first day of my period. When I got my period this time, I did have similar pain on the first day.
Thanks again! NaniD

I just wanted to add that not everyone's endo grows back right away, or at all.  I may also just be being super paranoid about mine! :o)

Do you know if you are ovulating even though you have PCOS?   Chances are that you are not without the assistance of hormones.  I can tell you that I tried clomid alone for 5 cycles without any success.  I was only on metformin at the time for my PCOS.  I also had a normal HSG and DH's sperm is good.  Then I had a lap done in December and it confirmed I had endometriosis.  They removed all the adhesions/tissue.  March/April was our first attempt since the lap.  I did my first try on  injectables (follistim plus a little bit of lupron to hold off ovulation until it was go time) and my first IUI.  We got our very first BFP, however, I lost it after 3 days. :o(  We are trying again this month (after taking a cycle off), because I'm going into my 6th month since the lap and I can tell when I have a bowel movement from the pain that the endo is coming back.  Plus my periods are getting progressively heavier and more painful again.  I didn't want to chance waiting and having the endo come back - because clearly the lap had to have made some difference in our success.

That is just my story and everyone's situation is different, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to hear a partial success story from someone in a similar situation.  If you just had your lap done, you've got plenty of time.  It was 3 months after my lap until we started my IUI cycle.  Have you had an ultrasound since the lap?  One of the reasons we had to wait was because I had a giant hematoma (bloodclot) inside after the surgery.  Plus, it's always good to make sure you are totally healed.  Do you feel healed and ready to go on injectables?  That's something you need to decide for yourself.  If you try on your own instead, every other day around O time will certainly be key, and I've never heard anything regarding whether morning or night is better - I think it makes no difference to the sperm or the egg :o)

Good luck to you - if you have any other questions feel free to send me a message.
