well ladies, thank you for telling me in's and out's of the process. at first I was worried about them implanting 2 embryo's and having twins but now, I think I would be lucky to just get pregnant with one. Lord knows I don't want to be disapointed with the first try...My fiance is determend to have gender selection for a boy during this process. We are going to pursue this in July after the wedding and honeymoon trip...I think now I'm nervous about doing this, because the doctor told me I was a great candiate for this. that after 35 the eggs production slows down, and now is a great time to do it...

I agree with Yvette as well... You should look into getting a tubal reversal.. Lori75: you say you had your tubal in 94... I had mine in 2004 and after seeing different specialist I was told that the reversal would'nt help me because my tubes were too far apart.  That's why I opted for the IVF.  And yes if you do the IVF, store the embryos... Because of my lack of knowledge with the procedure, I opted out and now have to do a fresh cycle and pay all over again... Even the meds...

"I am a healthy 28 y.o. with 3 children.  I had a tubal ligation back in 2004, after a divorce.  I have re-married and I now want to have another child with my current spouse.  I went through IVF in June 2008, I was told by the MD and Embryologist that everything was perfect.  I had 22 eggs, and 8 became embryos.  2 were transferred at blastocyst stage, I was so confident it would work that I opted to discard the remaining eggs and after the 2 week wait I had a negative PT.. I have been heartbroken as well as my husband.  We are both healthy and fertile, I'm 28 and he's 25, he doesn't have any children.  I want to try again, but I'm terrified that it won't work again. The MD did tell me that she would change the protocol a bit to stimulate more eggs.  I'm lost, afraid and confused... What do I do?"

If you did do IVF, they would put you on meds...lots of them and they're expensive!!  You could probably get the tubal reversal for what you'd pay for the injections.

If I were you..I would go with the tubal reversal.  At your age you have a lot of time.  So if that's an option for you, try that first.  IVF is a lot $$ and you only get one shot with fresh embryos.  And if it doesn't take then your out the money.  You can do follow up embryo transfers if the first attempt doesn't take, however, but that's based on how many eggs your get and how many fertilize.  You'd probably get a decent amount however, because of your age.    IVF is emotionally draining and it doesn't always work the first time!  Do it as a last and final resort.

You're better off doing the tubal reversal if you can...it's cheaper and you can try and try again!

I have to be honest... This is a very emotional, physical and financial strain.... First, find a fertility clinic, do research on everything including the docs... My husband and I did IVF in June 08... And we had 2 blastocysts transferred but neither implanted.. I was heart broken, disappointed and angry.  When you first start the process, there are many blood test.  After the docs know what your history is, they make a special protocol for you to be on.  Which is all the meds.  You have to take an injection class which you also have to pay for. After all that you start your meds and injections.... After keeping a close eye on your egg development , they then move on to retrieval then transfer... It all takes like 6 weeks... So good luck on your journey and pray like never before...

If you do the IVF, even though you have children, you have to go on meds, because they need to stimulate your eggs and that medication is usually up to $2800.  I have 3 children and also had a tubal ligation in 2004.... My first IVF cycle did not work.

do you think they will put me on the meds, I don't have trouble with getting pregnant. I have 2 kids, but had my tubes tied in 94,and the doctor thinks it would be easier to do invitro than tubal reversal

As many times as you are willing. After 5 attempts they may find you are incapable of concieveing and might have to switch doctors. The fresh cycles are what cost more money but hopefully you will have left over embryos freezing to put back in next time and that doesn't cost as much. Really its the meds they put you on that cost so much money.
