Will it even happen?

I have had 3 children, with the youngest being 5. I got pregnant in June and m/c'd in Aug. Now that I'm trying, it doesn't seem to be happening...so I was doing some research on endo and came across this site where I found this.

Endometriosis, this can double the chances of miscarriage.

Small fibroids may increase miscarriage risk;
According to early findings from a pilot study done by researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, America, it appears the presence of fibroids is uniformly associated with and may increase miscarriage. (Fibroids are benign muscle tumours of the uterus.) It's estimated they affect more than one in five women of reproductive age, and early results indicate that women with small fibroids (more so than larger fibroids) have a 55% increased risk of pregnancy loss.

I thought that since I had a small fibroid when I got pregnant that it was no big deal. I know that the odds are against me in getting pregnant....but I had no clue that if I did, I would have such a high chance of m/c again. After reading this it just made me feel kind of defeated. Does anyone else have any experience in getting pregnant with these issues?

Thank you so much Debs. It does help to hear that. I guess since we've been trying for 7 months now with no results that it's starting to get to me. Actually I didn't find out about the fibroid until my prenatal visit at 9w in July and they did an u/s. I always had the cysts and endo though. I obviously never had a problem getting pregnant before...My pregnancy last summer was a welcomed suprise. We were planning on having another child in a couple of years anways. After my m/c it made me think that I need to go ahead with trying now before it's too late. My mother had to have a hystorectomy due to a terrible case of fibroids. I just want this so bad...and I'm getting scared that it might not happen.

Hi Steph –I’m so sorry you are feeling so down... I think all of us who are TTC have those feelings especially when you have managed to produce healthy children and have the shock of having a M/C and discovering problems.

Did you have the fibroids when you conceived the other babies or is this a recent diagnosis? Try not to read too much into statistics on M/C and other probs - although they are facts there are plenty of women that through sheer courage and determination beat those odds and go on to fall pregnant and give birth to healthy babies but these figures are not published... There are plenty testament to that on this site!.

I know you are looking for reasurrance and I am afraid I don't have any personal experience.. just wanted to wish you luck and hope you get the answers you are looking for.

Take care Debs
