3 miscarriages within 6 months
Ive had 3 miscarriages 8/10, 10/10 & 12/10. Went to RE after 12/10 mc was told AMH levels are low (.65). I had the test completed 2 weeks after mc. RE prescribed clomid and progesterone. Has anyone had success with clomid? My concern is not getting pregnant but sustaing a healthy pregnancy. Any advice, anyone in similar situation??? Please help this is my 4th post not getting much feedback here...
Thank you! Each m/c has been between the 5th and 6th week, I have not yet made it to the 6th week. My cycles are typically right on time even after the m/c's. However, ths month started a week and a half early. Im wondering if I should start the clomid, today is the 3rd day and the RE has me taking them days 3-7. Any suggestions???
This is a tough one because your issue seems to be one of egg quality. You probably have a good number of healthy eggs still, but were very unlucky in your last pregnancies. I think progesterone cannot hurt, but I am not sure if IVF would help. Even poor quality eggs will fertilize and form beautiful embryos at first. I do think that, if you produce multiple eggs per cycle instead of one, you will increase your chances of a healthy one sticking. I would try the Clomid. It's very inexpensive and can give you the additional chances to get that magical egg, with very few side effects. You are getting pregnant, which is unfortunately only half the battle, but it's very promising that you are getting to the implantation stage. At what week are you m/c'ing? Can you ask your doctor to do an early ultrasound on you, say 5 or 6 weeks? This can help to detect the sac, if it's a blighted ovum, etc. which may provide you additional information on what's going on. I am so sorry for your losses, even one is too many and I hope that you never need to experience that again. Best to you!
I'm so sorry for your losses, this has been a lot harder than I ever imagine it would be. I actually had the blood work completed about a week ago. Everything came back normal except for low AMH levels. RE says its probably just a combination of old age and bad luck. He did prescribe progesterone says it may aid in sustaining the pregnancy because those levels are low but there is no guarantee. Here is a copy of what the RE sent me regarding my visit...I truyl wish you all the best and pray that you too are blessed with a healthy baby!
Your lab tests on 12/30/10 came back as follows:
TSH = 1.1, your thyroid is fine.
Hemoglobin A1c = 5.1%, you're not diabetic.
Lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipin antibodies were both negative, meaning you don't have two relatively common situations where your immune system causes miscarriages.
FSH = 6.8, the hormone from your pituitary gland to stimulate your ovaries was normal.
AMH = anti-mullerian hormone = 0.65, which is pretty low. This test measures your "ovarian reserve," which is a term we use to describe the number and health of egg cells in your ovaries, and normally falls with age. Your result is low, even for a 37 year old.
Putting all your background and exam and lab results together, I would say that what we discussed in my office is most likely true, that your miscarriages are a combination of being older and bad luck. The one test you might consider is that X-ray of your uterus and tubes that we mentioned, the hysterosalpingogram, to see if you have scar tissue in your uterus, but the chance of this is low. If you'd like to do this, please call my nurse Shirley at 859-323-0784 (her new number) and she'll help you schedule it.
I would mention again that what to do next depends on the intensity of your desire for pregnancy and the amount of resources you're willing to commit to having a baby. Our current plan is not bad, but unfortunately the chance of pregnancy is not as good as we'd like. You could improve your chances by pursuing in vitro fertilization, or IVF with donor eggs, as we previously discussed.
Please come back an see me earlier than we planned if you'd like to talk about all this some more, or we can go over it when you're scheduled to return.

I guess the logic is to try to make extra eggs and then hope that that increases the odds of one of the embies sticking. Personally, I think the issue of implantation failure should be addressed first. Clomid doesn't do anything for that. (I'm assuming that implantation failure is the issue since your 3 pregnancies were so close together.) Have you had the tests to try to determine the cause of your losses? (NK cells, ANA, antiphospholipid antibodies, etc.) I'm very, very sorry for your losses by the way. I'm going thru one myself at the moment. (I'm not even sure which number it is any more, as I have had so many.) Mine all happen a few days after implantation. :-( I pray that you are able to get to the bottom of what's going on and carry a healthy baby to full-term! Keep us posted!
