I had my appt. this morning.... my OB told me 2 things.   one. I might vary well have polycystic ovary disease, not entirely sure what that all means yet I will do research when I'm done at work
for that I have to have a bunch of labs drawn tomorrow after fasting for 12hrs, then after these labs I have to drink 75 grams of some kind of sugary drink, then I have to sit around for 2 hrs and then have my labs drawn again.   I believe that will tell me it I have the disease, but I won't get all the results until next week most likely.  Second she sard she doesn't believe I'm ovulating so if the tests come back fine I will have to go to a fertility Doc that will most likely prescribe clomid and run other tests (??)   I'm upset.... I just want to be normal!!!    she also said those fertility appts. are not covered & are out of pocket.... how much $ should I expect?    What if I can't ovulate? I won't ever be able to have a child of my own!  I'm so upset....

First, it's always good to know that your doc knows what the problem is since once you know what the problem is you can fix it.  Many ladies on this forum who were diagnosed with PCOS ovulate regularly with clomid or injectables and are able to get pregnant.  By the way, medhelp has a special PCOS forum since it's a very common problem.

Making an appointment with infertility specialist is a good idea.  They are most helpful when you ttc.

IUI is Intra-uterine insemination (basically it's artifical insemination). The clomid you take once a day for 5 days, and your doctor determines what days are best for you. I take mine on cycle days 3-7.

As for the glucose, I'm not sure how that's related to infertility. Sorry.

What your doctor didn't explain is that what you have is not a disease. You have what is called PCOS. Is when a woman have a pearl of cysts on her ovari instead of one on regular women and don't ovulate. The sugar drink that you're gonna have is fasting glucose. That is given to see the level of the glocuse. Many many women have what you have and is a little bid frustrating because you're gonna need help from a specialist to get pregnant. Clomit is a med. that helps you ovulate, but many women like in my case don't do well on clomit, so your Re has to go on other choices. If your glucose level is high you might take metformin along with clomit. It says it helps better on ovulation than clomit alone. One sign on woman with pcos is irregular or absent period, but that can be regulated by medication. If it is possible for you don't lose your time on your GYN if you're trying to conceve for a long time. An RE is more appropriate. Good luck

I completely understand how you feel. I had the same problem and was not ovulating on my own. My OB was able to prescribe clomid herself, and they are not covered by insurance. they do however have a generic form. I think I pay $20-$25 for the five pills. I have taken them for 6 months now and have had ovulation occur. I don't know what a fertility doctor charges, so i can't help you with that. I did have an IUI this month because even though I am ovulating now, i still have not been able to get pregnant, and that was not covered by my Insurance. I think the cost for that is about $400.

I am sorry you are feeling so frustrated. I will keep you in my prayers and Good Luck.
