Anxious about the procedure

My throat is covered with Phlem in the morning and I am short of breathe .  I have been diagnosed with GERD and have had all the tests done, but I am very anxious about going for the procedure.   I am afraid that I wont be able to swallow properly.  What are the side effects of not being able to vomit?
