Hello, just wanted to weigh in here with my own experience.
I have been prescribed Adderall for 16 years and about 8 years ago I noticed that feeling of not being able to get a full breath. I went to National Jewish where they did a laryngoscopy and we saw that my larynx would collapse just before my breath was complete. They said this was due to thrush in my throat and acid reflux (though I haven't found a connection between the two or shown symptoms associated with thrush.) They prescribed so many different medicines that I ended up having mood swings and quitting them. Maybe not my best decision, although mood swings in an already hormonal high school girl is a recipe for disaster.
Anyway, I began to notice that my breathing problems were the worst and most noticeable on days that I took Adderall. Apparently, Adderall can make the symptoms of acid reflux worse which is why I feel like I cant reach a satisfying deep breath. I haven't read anything linking thrush and reflux and the symptoms of thrush don't fit my symptoms, but I did watch my larynx collapse when trying to breathe. I take nexium, which helps my reflux symptoms such as a burning throat or coughing violently in the middle of the night, but it does not treat the breathing problems. I've been dealing with the problem for so many years that I'm used to it, but I'm curious if there's anything I can do to actually eradicate this symptom. Also, antacids intensify the effect of Adderall and I don't really like that side effect.
I guess what I'm trying to do is figure out if, knowing that the problem originates in my larynx, anyone knows of a remedy or anything about the specific condition.
Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.
A sliding hiatal hernia can put pressure on ur diaphragm...so breathing can be affected in that way....and it is possible to bloat with gas and also have that pressure. The vagus nerve can be impinged and cause all sorts of symptoms.
Is ur Dr a GI Dr? If not u may want to see one to verify if u have LPR as it is also known as Silent Reflux...and can fit ur symptoms there could be other underlying causes so do see a Dr that is a specialist in this area.
Also look to ur families medical history, it may also help clarify things.
Best of luck.
