Complecations with acid reflux

I am a male 24 years old and have had a laparoscopic fundoplication performed on me for my acid reflux where they take your stomach and wrap it around. I had it done in 2010 and hadn't had any reflux problems up until now and I want to know if this is common?

Good idea to stop drinking carbonated beverages.  Also, yes your fundoplication could have come loose and is causing problems.
My fundoplication came 3/4 loose and I had to have the surgery done over.  Am in my first week... :(

I fell in front of a store and broke my ribs and pulled loose several stitches.... perhaps the bloating from all the gas has pulled some of yours loose, too.

Wishing you the best

I'm am going back to the doctor in about a week or two to see what's wrong if everything is fine. I have been feeling some unusual chest, and neck discomfort and wonder if not being able to burp and having too much gas build up is what's causing my discomfort.

I would strongly suggest you eliminate any carbonated beverage from your diet.  Frankly, I'm astounded you can drink them.  In my case, the wrap makes burping very uncomfortable and I totally avoid any food that commonly causes gas.

I haven't had another endoscopy since my surgery in 2010. After my surgery they told me I didn't need to change my diet. I can't say that I'm a healthy eater and don't get a lot of fruits and vegetables in my diet. I don't smoke but I drink light beers on occasions (about every other week or so). I drink soda drinks quiet often to. I just wonder if not getting enough fruits and vegetables in my diet and drinking too much pop affected my post-op?

Smiley and I both have had the procedure, and my procedure was and remains quite successful five years post surgery, and believe Smiley can say the same.  A relative of mine had the procedure but 'pushed the envolope' by overeating and broke the seal, so to speak.  It is also possible your wrap loosened on it's own.  I'd sure have another Endoscopy soon to see why things changed.  Hope you feel better soon, keep us informed.

Hi there,

Did you have improvement on all of your symptoms and now, 3 years post-op suffer from acid reflux again?  no changes in diet or took up smoking or anything that can explain the onset of symptoms?

When was your last Endoscopy?
