Does anybody know?

I had the Nissen 7 months ago. I have lost 35 lbs. and all desire to eat. Anything I do eat is not enjoyable. And I am still vomiting a lot. Will I ever be able to enjoy a normal meal and keep it down? Right now for example a quarter of a hamburger is all I can eat. I have even lost interest in my favorite foods.

Hi there Lindeloue63,

I think very highly of "Flycaster" and he is agreeing with me and we BOTH feel that you should get an Endoscopy.

I can actually recommend that you get the Endoscopy from maybe even a 2nd - different - Surgeon to get an opinion on the Nissen that was done?

Please let us know as we'll be worried about you now :)

I would agree completely with Smiley, it sounds like your wrap is too tightly done.  I'm two years post-op from the Nissen F. procedure and eat normally, just a little less.  I lost about 15 pounds initially but have gained back about 7.  It is rare that someone can throw up if the food actually reaches the stomach, it sounds like the constriction is such that food doesn't get past the wrap.
I'd echo Smiley, a hamburger sounds to me like a difficult food to digest when one is having issues like you are experiencing.  I'd recommend liquid/very soft foods until your situation is corrected.  Have you any luck with Ensure, milkshakes, Instant breakfast, oatmeal, etc?
Keep us informed.

Hi there,

I had my Nissen 4 months ago and I don't think we ever get our old appetites back and eat smaller portions, but you should not be vomiting.  That to me is a warning sign that your wrap was done to tightly!

I have a friend who still vomited 1 year post-op and she had to get a re-done Nissen as the wrap was to tight!

I read something about a Hamburger!  you have to make healthier food choices.  But definitely not normal to vomit at this stage of your recovery.  You need a 2nd opinion and Endoscopy to check wrap.
