Please get to the doctor as it takes time to been seen and time to get all the tests need. One big reason you shouldn't wait is that it took two years before I had the Nessen Wrap for GERD and hiatal hernia and it caused my gums to recess. I ended up having surgery to graft skin from the roof of my mouth to the gums so I wouldn't loose my teeth. I have acid again after a long time and will get the surgery if need as I still have more gum surgery to do, but it is very expensive. Also scaring from the acid can cause cancer.
I experienced LPR after a long and successful help from acid blockers. Once the valves are damaged that block the acids from washing back up into the esophagus, exactly what Selma reported can and does happen. In my case I had a bowel obstruction that caused violent vomiting and messed up the valves, and it resulted in mangled vocal chords and tooth enamel removal, and it happened very, very fast. Enzyme supplements that are bought over the counter aren't regulated so, that's a scary road to travel but it wouldn't hurt. However, as there are many, many causes for what you are reporting, I'd see a doctor as Selma suggests. In my case, surgery to repair the valves was extremely successful, and I had my teeth coated. My voice remains damaged.
I have researched enzyme supplements and it was a bit confusing as there were so many different kinds. Can you give me an idea of which I should take for LPR?
Thanks!
Thank you for your replies. I will be more careful with my diet and try the digestive enzyme supplements. I have a wedge to sleep on and hopefully that will help also.
Yes LPR can damage your throat. The good news is you can get rid of LPR. My mother had severe LPR and severe GERD for 5 years. Now she suffers neither. By stopping all acid blockers and taking digestive enzyme supplements (helps digest proteins, carbohydrates and fats) and betaine HCI with pepsin supplements (helps with stomach acid production), both conditions were gone within a few weeks. The extra bonus was that her gastritis is almost gone after a year and a half on these supplements. She has suffered gastritis for 25 years. The most common cause of non obstructive acid reflux conditions and many other digestive problems is actually insufficient stomach acid.
Hi...yes it can...this is also known as Silent reflux bcuz too many times the pt does not have the typical symptoms of reflux...no heartburn, etc.....
But there r ways to recognize this...ur saliva may be thicker, ur voice may become raspy at times, difficult swallowing, constant need to clear ur throat.
These r just a few.
But the acids can and will continue to move up into as far as ur mouth and can cause erosion of the enamel on ur teeth...lesions in ur esophagus.....
Do see a Dr and modify ur diet and life style to curb the acids.
