PPI works initially

I had reflux/heartburn  and was presribed Protonix/Pantoprazole, it worked almost straight away with a near constant burning down to a very mild/trivial intermittent issue which felt like a total cure by comparison. Then after just 2 weeks on the drug, i'm getting reflux again mainly when I swallow, I'm still taking the pills but this makes no sense for a drug to work so well so quickly and then habe symptoms come roaring back? What does all this mean?
I don't smoke, or drink often, I don't have caffeine or spicy foods am not overweight either.

Well some herinas can slide and may not always be found by a manual check....

The hunger u speak about is the added acids our body produces b4 we eat to help break down foods, and this is y we  r told ( those with reflux) to eat 4 to 5 small meals instead of 3 as we do get those awful hunger reflux type pains....

So eat b4 u get hungry to avoid that issue...

Keep a journal and I hope this helps : )

Thanks, on the drink thing, I would only drink white wine about once or twice a month for social occasions. Only other things I drink are tap water and orange juice-the sort you buy from the store as sachets of powder and add water. I have stopped the orange juice 2 days ago but so far noticed no difference. I;ve also stopped eating white bread a few days ago too. Interestingly, my problems eases considerably for some time after a meal but when I get hungry, that hunger feels more intense.

Hernias run in the family but I;ve never had one and the Doc did a poke and fel of my abdomen and found nothing.

Sometimes it is finding the root of the reflux...a hiatial hernia or something along those lines....

U said u do not drink often, what do u drink on a daily basis? If u drink soda, and occasionally alcohol that is enuff to trigger symptoms....

Actually I never heard of this med work that fast, it usually takes a few weeks to take effect....

And for some people some meds just do not work, give it a few more weeks and then ask if u can try a diff med....a H2 blocker instead of a PPI.

But do make sure u r modifying ur diet and lifestyle to help the meds help u feel better.
