Pain in Sternum area

In the past two weeks I have had something going on that I'm not quite sure what it is.  It starts with a swirling in my sternum area which turns into a twisting type cramping.  This leads to headaches, dizziness, fevers that go up and down and acid (I'm on 20 mg aciphex - 2 x daily) that races up my throat due to vomiting that causes my throat to swell. It is something that comes and goes.  Two weeks ago it hit on a Saturday & my husband almost took me to the hospital due to possible dehydration.  By Sunday I felt weak but better and continued to get better every day even though I still felt somewhat weak.  Then Friday morning it hit again, but this time it hit hard and I spent all day Friday and Saturday vomiting til it was just bile.  On Sunday I went to the ER and was re-hydrated.  They took test after test and called it gastritis period.  No how do I avoid this or what causes it, just gastritis.  Any ideas on what is going on so maybe I can change something so I don't have to go through this again?

They took a urine sample, ran blood tests, rehydrated me, took x-rays of my chest and abdomen and then did an ultrasound to check all my vital organs looking for gall stones, kidney stones.....checked my liver, etc., and they were all fine.
My doctor does have me on 2 20mg aciphex a day and I thought perhaps it was tricking my body into thinking it didn't have enough acid, so was producing too much, so I cut myself down to one Aciphex a day and seem to be doing better.  Thanks for asking.

Thanks for caring enough to reply.  I haven't been out of the country or in any rivers, lakes or streams so I think I'm safe there.I don't know if this was a new weird kind of flu bug or what but it wasn;t fun.  Since I have been bettter however, I have hard other people making comments on being ill and the symptoms sound alot like the ones I had, so maybe it was just something that was going around.
Again, thanks for posting and wishing me well.  It was appreciated more than you'll ever know.......May the Lord watch over you and keep you.

You may have a food allergy of some sort. Sometimes allergies pop up at various times in life. If you are taking any new medication that could be causing it. Do NOT take anti-inflammatories on an empty stomach. Also if you have been out of the country or in a river, lake, or stream lately be sure you get checked for parasites. They often live in water or undercooked meat. Doctors sometiems don't think about them right off the bat. Good luck!
