Gall baldder is necessary to remove

Hi I have gall stones, they are mobile. one year before my doctor diagnosed that I had gall stone when there was a terrible pain and vomiting. He suggested me to remove it as gall stones are mobile. After that I went on low fat diet. Nothing happen for almost 6 to 7 months. Last week I ate spicy food and there was a gallstone attack. It was a terrible pain with numbness of hand and feet.  I ended up to emergency as my husband mistook it as heart attack. Everything was normal- my blood pressure and I had no temperature. I had enough oxygen and my pulse was good. They discharged me in the morning to consult my GP. My gp immediately refer me to specialist. Now specialist recommended me  that I should remove it as it can be dangerous. They didnot did any ultrasound or any thing. When they try to feel it there is no pain under my ribs. I am on low fat diet and dont eat much in a time. I have lost weight also following the diet plan. Please advice me is it necessary to remove gall bladder.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Any structural abnormalities of the gall bladder like stones or polyps need surgical correction. The stones can chronically irritate the gall bladder wall and cause inflammation and pain. Also, this chronic irritation is a predisposing cause for gall bladder cancer. If the stone is placed in the neck of the gall bladder, it can cause retention of bile, with stasis and consequent infection. So, the best option would be to have an elective gall bladder removal.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hi I think you should get it removed because you will end up in more pain if you don't. Also, if one of the stones gets stuck in a bile duct that can really hurt you. How do they know you have gall stones if you didn't have an ultrasound. Get and ultrasound before doing the surgery. The surgery isn't too bad, they use laproscopic surgery, so they only cut little slits in a few places on the tummy. I would stay on the low fat diet too because it helps lessen the issues. But if you have gallstones and it hurts bad, and you are puking, I would have it done. The sucky thing is that I just found out they can come back after the surgery, but its rare.
