24 with bile reflux for over a year please help..advice/opinions

my history of stomach problems starts 3 years ago i was put on nexium 40mg once a day for gastritis i have been on it since at the same dosage

last april i all the sudden started getting this constant burning in my stomach and also developed some diarrhea resulting from it

i went to a specialist then and had blood tests, sonogram, and upper endoscopy done..onyl thing that came was on the ensoscopy they saw tons of bile and diagnosed me with bile reflux with gastritis

i was put on carafate pills ive tried 4 times a day 3 times a day and 2 times a day..for a while i was on 2 times a day but still felt burning but got by..then over this past summer it got worse i up it to 3 and it got somewhat better

i went to a different specialist because of a disagreement i had with the previous one since seeing the new guys he has tried me on other ppis..which i know wont help since they dont help the majority of people with bile reflux problems they can actually make it worse

i was put on ursodiol by my request due to research ive done i was put on that 300mg twice a day and that didnt help

he tried me on bentyl and i had a bad reaction to that

now i had a 2nd endoscopy my throat shows redness

my problem is everything this dr seems to be saying and even treatment method seems to be aimed towards acid reflux and i know bile reflux is very different

hes bringing up surgery and stuff but it seems like everything is related to acid reflux

he sending me to another gi specialist to get a PH bravo capsule test done my consultation for that is next friday

my feelings is i dont see how this can just happen out of no where..so one of the things i see as a possible cause is being on the nexium i might try to wean my self off of it i have 20mg pills already from another dr i can use

any advice on anything i should try or bring up to my doctors?

anyone with more info on diversion surgery for it and if its helped you or anyone you know..after this surgery and you recover can you eat normal..like im a 24 year old male i want to live my life..i dont do drugs i dont drink i just want to be able to go out with my gf enjoy my time eat healthy but have to worry to much about what i eat

This may sound crazy but when my Bile Reflux starts I take a a swallow of a Energy drink called NOS although other brans will probably work, with each burning pain and after 2 or 3 pains and swallows the Bile refluxing stops. Hope this helps someone.

thank you for your response

i did read his post..sometimes its just frustrating dealing with something like this that theres not too many treatments for and to top it off alot of drs dont know even how to fully treat it..

the guy my current dr is sending me to do for the ph test cause he doesnt do it himself im going to try to get a feel for him see if he better understands it all and maybe see him fulltime

i just want to try everything before i give in to surgery if thats what im told i should do

i understand what your going through bec. we are exactly on the same boat.have you read the post from sickboy1 in this forum?if not, try reading it,its a detailed explanation of what he had been through (medicines, tests, drs etc.) including his advice and his research leading him to believe that its bile reflux. i think he also mentioned that he is going through diversion surgery.its a major surgery i believe wherein they'll  divert bile flow to a lower part of the intestine.as for me I started taking 40 mg nexium every other day instead of daily as i've been used to. nexium is providing some relief but the abdominal discomfort and bloating keeps coming back. from my own readings (www.mayoclinic.com)the only 2 medicines to help with bile reflux is ursodiol (actigal) and ppi's but accdg. to you its not giving you any help. i suggest you control the amount of food you eat. the cause of bile reflux as you might have already known is that the pyloric valve does not close as it is suppose to allowing bile to go up your stomach.

I'm praying that you could find the answer to your problems so you can live a normal life.

Actigall - Clinical Pharmacology-Try this for bile related reflux after cholecystectomy. Misdiagnosis is a common theme amongst providers. For whatever reason, if it doesn't slap them right in the face upon analysis of your symptoms,  then you become forgotten about.   Push your physicians to work for you, it is not the other way around.  Do your research and never accept NO.
