Am I crazy?

I had the laporoscopic gall bladder removal 4 days ago. The doc sent me home with 2 1/2 days worth of pain killers. I was told to call in before I was out of the medication to order more. So, I called it in on Friday. The surgeon who did the operation went on vacation, and left another surgeon on call. When I called the scrip in, I was told by the on call surgeon that I shouldn't be experiencing any pain 2 days after surgery, and he denied my prescription. He asked me what is my pain level, I told him a 6 unless I move, then it's much worse. He actually laughed at me and told me "I don't think it's that bad". So, here I am, sitting all weekend with no pain meds, in terrible pain with no way of getting ahold of the doctor. I called the E.R. and was told to wait until Monday to talk to my doctor. I don't know what to do. But, a lawyer is looking good right about now. Is it true that the pain should only last 2 days? And if so, what is my problem?

I had my gallbladder out 2 yrs ago. they sent me home with vicodin and it made me sick to my stomach so i took nothing. I wasnt in much pain it was more sore than anything. the only time I felt really uncomfortable was when I tried to sleep at night , It felt like my stomach was being stretched out and pulling to one side. But I got through it without any pain meds and the pain was over after the first week, although I was sore while sleeping for 4 weeks. I do however gotta say 2 days after my surgey I went to the casino with my mother and walked around and gambled for 5 hrs straight, by the time I left I was wishing I did take some pain meds.... Anyway the bottom line is we all have different tolerences for pain. And you have every right to have pain meds as long as it hurts you..... So I hope it all works out....

I had my gallbladder removed over a year ago and I still remember those 2 weeks of pain like it was yesterday! You are not crazy. I cannot take pain meds b/c they make me throw up, he gave me some anyway but the pain I was in was so bad I felt I would die if I started throwing up too, so I took Motrin. The first 2 days I cried and I was very slow moving for 2 weeks and couldn't stand upright. Everyone is different, but I have an extremely high pain tolerance (I have chronic kidney stones & get through them with no meds) and that lap surgery kicked my butt. I am glad you went to the ER and got something for it. My surgeon said everyone is different, some have no pain others have a lot of pain. Hope you are feeling better

I ended up in the e.r. yesterday. They gave me 2 pills on the spot, and a prescription for 20. The e.r. doc told me I wasn't crazy. I also called the nurses hotline that my insurance provides, and got ahold of my g.p. so, it's documented several times that the on call guy was down right nasty to me. Today I'll get a lawyer. Thanks for your response.

If it were me I would take myself to the E.R. and let them know what happened. Most E.R. prescribe at least 5-10 pills as needed for pain. This way it is documented that you were experiencing pain after surgery and the only help you were able to get, which was not from your surgeons "stand in", but by another physician. It always helps to have another opinion as well, and if it goes any further, such as a complication during your surgery, you can certainly show them your records. I've never had laproscopic surgery, however, they say it is the least painful and least invasive.  If you have pain, I don't think your crazy, I think the health professionals are.
