Autoimmune liver disease and diarrhea

It seems that once or twice a year, I experience chronic diarrhea that is about 99% water.  It goes on like this for weeks, months, then one day just stops.  I experience no weight loss but do get dehydrated and have to drink lots of water.

I've seen my doctor about it, been tested for Celiac but really get, well, poo-poo'd (excuse the phun)  by docs, and not treated very seriously. (they suggest Imodium.)  The diarrhea can be debilitating.  It causes cramps, gas and makes my stomach very noisy.  I can't go to the library for instance, and even my pet dog looked shocked to hear the noises coming from my abdomen.

I have autoimmune liver disease but it is well under control.  Any thoughts?  Also, it seems to happen in the early spring of each year  (or fall) but this could be a coincidence.

Thank you!

So does anyone else have any advice or opinions?

CalGal, There is no family history of celiac, and keep in mind, my diarrhea goes away for very long amounts of time.  If you want to further discuss celiac, please send me a link to the post, I want to focus on possible answers for my current condition.

I would greatly appreciate any further replies about my current condition.

Thanks!

Oops, sorry, I thought that you hadn't been tested for celiac disease. But if you've been tested by blood testing, that test can be highly unreliable IMO and many others who are celiac, or who are married to someone with celiac disease (my status). If there's anyone in your family with celiac disease, consider getting retested, and make sure you also get your alleles checked as well.

If you want to check out whether or not you have celiac issues, go to enterolab.com and order a kit from them. You can also do a lot of reading on the subject at the site which will give you a wealth of information.

It's a good site and the results of the test are highly specific.
