My doctor prescribed bentyl before my gallbladder removal about 4 years ago. My HIDA scan showed a low ejection fraction & I was diagnosed with biliary dyskinesia. I took the bentyl 30 minutes to an hour before meals & ate a low fat diet. The combination of the two definitely reduced the amount of attacks I had, & I stopped having to “go to the bathroom” as often as I did before starting the bentyl.
My surgeon prescribed Bentyl for pain management prior to my gall bladder surgery.
Bentyl can be used for spasms almost anywhere in the body. There are no meds specific enough to target a specific body region or organ as far as I know.
He could be using it for either - to see what happens within your biliary system, or to see if the pain might be coming from stomach, duodenum, etc.
With a distended GB wall and positive sign, you may want to be very cautious with your diet despite a 39% ejection fraction.
So can the Bentyl work on spasms caused by the gallbladder (if it causes spasms??) or is he trying to use the Bentyl to see if it controls spasms possibly caused from somewhere else? Does the Bentyl work that high up or is it meant for the lower GI tract? Sorry I guess I am just a little confused with it all. :-( Thanks.
Your doctor may be using the anti-spasm med to try to ascertain whether or not your discomfort might be due to spasms within your biliary system. 39% isn't a horrendously low ejection fraction, so it's possible something else might be going on.
