Burning Stomach

At the end of Nov. I started having a burning gnawing feeling in the middle of my stomach right below the breastbone and belching alot. I went to the dr and she did blood workup and a H pylori test which all came back normal and said I probably had too much acid in my stomach. Put me on prevacid, took that for 5 weeks and it did nothing. Went back to the dr where she did more workup, checked my pancreatic enzymes and liver functions which once again came back normal, had a ultrasound on the liver, pancreas and gallbladder and all came back fine. I went to a GI dr that went over all my test ask alot of questions and said nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. I am having a endoscopy on Monday. He told me to try prilosic which I have been taking since Friday. I do feel somewhat better, have my appetite back, the burning comes and goes now but now my upper stomach feels sore almost like if I have done 1000 situps. Also how long does it usually take for medicine to really work? When you read the prilosic it has on there 1 to 4 days, does that means that you start feeling better but it hasn't fully done its work? Any answers would be helpful. I also feels worse in the evening. Does this still sound like too much acid in the stomach? I am going crazy over this.

Thanks for your response. I guess I need to quit worrying so much until all my test are done and to be patient with the meds.

hi, a couple might be considered here, first you might have a duodenol ulcer or a hiatel hernia (part of your stomach protrudes through your diaphram). with an upper endoscopy you will be absolutely certain if any of the above is the case. the medication your taking will alleviate your condition, but you have to be patient, it takes several weeks before you start to feel yourself again. In the meantime you must adhere to a gerd free diet. cheers.
