Problems with protonix use

I am a longtime user of Protonix for GERD, about 11 years. For the last few months I have had increasing problems with deep muscle spasms in my upper legs, spasms in my hands and fingers, feet and toes and esophagus.

New  Protonix info indicated long time users may develop magnesium defiencey leading to cramping in the extremities. 250 mg magnesium a day and now two times a day seems to alleviate the problems.

I would like to switch prescriptions.

My question is will Prilosec also lead to magnesium deficiency?

Thank you

Louisa

Yes, I have an appointment set up. In the meantime my doctor has prescribed a different proton pump inhibitor, but recommended I keep taking the magnesium supplements and report back to him in a month.

It appears that this drawback is found with use of all proton pump inhibitors. You may want to discuss the problem with your doctor.
