Cause of slightly elevated bilirubin and right sided abdominal discomfort/pain?

I'm a 20 year old male. 6'2" ~155lbs. I recently started having abdominal pain, especially in the morning. I would wake up with nausea and gas and would feel like i had to use the bathroom. I would usually go and use the bathroom and my stool would be very soft and narrow, but still brown. I went to the doc and he ruled out appendicitis, pancreatitis, gall stones, etc. and prescribed me antacids. The day after i visited my doc, the pain seemed to shift to just my right side, especially a dull, squirmish-feeling pain right underneath my right rib cage. This discomfort is pretty constant, along with intermittent dull achy pain through my right side and right lower back, even down to my groin.

These feelings did not stop, and 3 days after seeing my doctor, i went to the er. They gave me an iv, and put me through a CT scan as well as did blood work. Everything came back normal, except my total bilirubin was "a little high" at 2.7. I have scheduled a follow up with my doc and he wants to refer me to a GI doctor, but in the mean time, I still have no answer for what is causing my discomfort/pain. Any one with similar experiences/symptoms or a guess as to what could be causing this?

I have the same symptoms calendar_girl could be right. I have been told the same. I have 2 bulging discs and a tear causing nerve pain. So hard for me to believe because of where my pain is. No dark stools or smell.

might want to also get a good colon cleanse such as herbdoc's intestinal #1 and #2

you take the if#1 at dinner increasing by one pill a day until you go tot he bathroom and say wow..should be going once for each meal and the stool should be volumous, fluffy not sinking, and easy to pass (not thin).

At that point that is your dose for if#1..take that dose from then on and then add the intestinal cleanse #2 (if#2) I use the powdered take this 5 times a day with water or juice best if shaken in a jar for mixing.

Here is what these formulas do

could this be stemming from your back having a pinched nerves as one I was coughing so bad I thought I fractured a rib but turned out it was a herniated disc radiating around to the front of body causing pain.

I would maybe see a chiropractor trained in the palmer method to see if spinal adjustments might help you.

So I just got back from my ultrasound. The tech said everything looked normal (and that since i'm so thin, he had to use 3 transducers and that when i lay on my left side apparently my gallbladder dangles to my left abdomen.) So that makes a negative CT scan, negative blood and urine tests, and a negative ultrasound. I did notice that i was very, very tender right beneath my sternum and all along the bottom of my rib cage. Most of the pain/achyness I have however is my lower right abdomen and my lower right hip/back. Any ideas?

the pain is right under my right rib cage, down my right side, around my right hip, and through my right lower back to my pelvis. i don't know what this could be. i had very thin dark stool today that smelled very bad.

Jvansant, wish I could give you a hand with this, but unfortunately there's not a lot I can think of to try to help. Make sure the radiologist also checks for sludge - can be difficult to pinpoint unless they're looking closely for it in some people.

On the off-chance it could be related to the kidneys (because you're also mentioning hip and lower back and the ureters run in some general location as the common bile duct), make sure you stay well hydrated.

Went to my PCP again today. Referred me to a GI doc that doesn't have an opening for 2 weeks. I have an ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow morning to check for gallstones i'm assuming. Still have persistent discomfort in my right abdomen, especially right underneath my bottom rib just to the right of my sternum. Also have pain in my right hip and lower back. It's difficult to find a position to sleep in because of this. Any ideas until I see the GI doc?

The area you're describing is where the common bile duct enters the duodenum (approximately). You may want to consider following a low fat diet until the doc comes to a conclusion.

I am now feeling just discomfort (comparable to an air bubble or pressure) to the right and below and above my belly button as well as right under my rib cage just to the right of the bottom of my sternum. Mostly concentrated right under the ab muscle directly above my belly button on my right side.

It's still possible the cause could be your gallbladder. You may want to ask your doc to schedule a HIDA scan with CCK injection to check the functioning of that organ.
