Colonoscopy & Bowel Problems

Hi, I am a 33yr old female. I have been having bowel problems for the past few years. In the past year I have been seeing mucus, blood and blood clots (large ones) in my feces. About 4 months ago I had an extensive colonoscopy, which revealed I have IBS-C and a 'spastic colon'? Thankfully, there were no polyps or other masses. I changed my diet cutting out gluten which was a major irritate for me. However, it hasnt helped with my bowel movements. I am still experiencing a lot of pain, blood and clots each time. I usually have a bowel movement about 1-2 times a day. Is there anything else I can do or try that might help? Did the doctor miss something else?

Hi CalGal, I actually never got a copy of the report. The doctor came in the room after I came round the colonoscopy very briefly. He said I have IBS-C, a spastic colon and some minor bleeding he thinks is caused from the IBS-C. My trouble is the bleeding hasnt stopped. I have tried over the counter meds for hemorroids, but they dont work great. Sometimes the pain in my bottom is throbbing, its hard to concentrate at work with such an ache.

Any help on how to get rid of internal hemorrhoids? Should I go on a liquid diet for a week to give them a chance to heal before eating solids again?

LynnieL, did you read the pathology report on the biopsy (or biopsies) that was/were taken from the colon? If not, get it and do so. It may not mean anything to you - the wording - but you can post it if you don't understand it and someone here should be able to help you understand it. There are things that are sometimes not relayed to the patient unfortunately. You also want to get a copy of the doc's reports on the colonoscopy to read, too.

If you're having blood and blood clots in your feces, and the doc didn't say something like very irritated internal hemorrhoids or give you another reason for the bleeding and the clots, something is 'off' somewhere.
