Concerned about this

I was diagnosed with h pylori recently by a blood test...the range was 5.2.  I had no real gastric symptoms.  My practitoner prescribed a 14 day course of antibiotics, bismuth, and prilosec.  My concern is that the medications will cause stomach problems that are not there now, also that there may be another problem, such as cancer.  would the 14 day delay in treatment, if it were something more serious, be significant?  Thank any of you for any help or advice...I am a bit nervous.

If you have been treated in the past for H. pylori and it was treated, this could be an incorrect result - if it was an antibody test. A more accurate test is the 'breath test.' If you want to know if you currently are harboring the bacterium then ask to have the breath test.

H. pylori can reside in some people without showing a lot of gastric problems until a long time afterward. A delay in treatment wouldn't hurt things at all.
