Colonoscopy

hi,

i had a colonoscopy today. I had no colon polyps but he told my wife after that my small intestine looked irritated or something to that fact. He said he took a piece for a biopsy.

My question is i think i might be having problems with yeast overgrowth. would the biopsy detect that? I wasn't able to ask him because i was out of it.

thanks

No a colonoscopy does enter a small portion of the small intestine...he said my colon looks good but irritation is in the small intestine....he took a sample of the small intestine for a biopsy....what would the biopsy be looking for?...bacteria?...cancer?

I don't think that a colonoscopy can reach the small intestine - I thought only the large intestine.  The small intestine needs to be examined through an ESSB (Esophagus, Stomach, and Small Bowel) test (you drink a barium milkshake and they watch it pass through your system while taking x-rays).  The doctor must be talking about your large intestine .  I would clarify with the doctor.  Not sure if the biopsy would detect yeast overgrowth - :(  sorry,.
