Constipation

I've been quite constipated for about 3 days now. I've been passing small amounts of stool daily but with great effort. At times only a mucus discharge will escape. Today I tried taking a laxative which worked to some degree. There was however blood in the stool and the mucus. Also I'm still constipated afterwards. This isn't at all normal for me so i'm a bit concerned. Any Ideas as to what is going on?

Now it's time to go to a doctor... they might be able to prescribe you something more effective, and they'll be able to have a look (as unpleasant as that may sound) and check for sure - although it sounds like constipation and haemorrhoids, as patient915 said.
It's a bit worrying that it fdidn't just go away after that laxative.  But there are a bunch of simple things it could be.  Could be exercise or diet, or in my case it was a physical symptom of a major depressive episode (although you'd definitely know whether you were having one of them).
Doctor will probably be able to clear it up in no time.

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  It is probably just constipation and hemorrhoids, but it is best to see a doctor about this.  I would recommend seeing your doctor as soon as possible to get checked out.
