Could it still be a pancrease problem? amylase/lipase levels

I'm confused by the lipase/amylase levels.  I think I have chronic pancreatitis due to an episode of extreme acute pancreatits.  I had a gallstone block my common bile duct, and my enzyme levels were both over 4,000 upon admission to the ER.  That was a year ago.  I continue to have upper abdominal pain that radiates to my left shoulder.  My recent lab work has indicated "normal" levels of enzymes.  My amylase was 61 and my lipas was 161.  Are these truly "normal" ? Can I still have pancreatic problems without abnormal levels of enzymes?

Thanks, I actually just got an email from my insurance company telling me to get an EUS, but I also have gastritis according to the blood work.   Who knows...I think the docs just guess sometimes...all I know is that I hurt!!!  I want answers.

Chronic pancreatitis often has normal enzyme levels and many drs will not admit this.  I would look into getting an EUS procedure to look for  CP.  This is best done by a center that specialized in liver and pancreas problems.  I am not sure where you are located but there is the Univ of MN, Univ of SC and Univ of Indiana.  My first choice would be Dr Cotton in SC.
