Hi there!
The ‘lump sensation’ in your throat is called globus in medical terms. It is common after an upper GI procedure. The feeling of a lump indicates that one of the muscles along the way is tightened. Although globus usually doesn't represent a serious problem, when prolonged beyond 6-10 weeks especially when associated with nausea, a thorough examination of the oral cavity and throat is in order, especially in smokers. The most common cause for this symptom is infection, usually viral. Masses and incoordinated contraction in the upper oesophagus and psychological stress could also cause the sensation. It would be best to have this evaluated by your treating gastroenterologist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
Hope this helps.
Take care!
Hello,
Few patients may have persistent postoperative nausea, dysphagia after surgery. These symptoms are usually transient and may resolve within a period of 3 months. Patients with persistent reflux or dysphagia after 3 months may need additional evaluation to rule out an anatomic failure of the operation. The successful outcome of a Nissen fundoplication depends on the precise technique used in a well-selected patient. Surgery done by experienced surgeons may yiel good outcomes. Consult your surgeon for reassurance and clarification of your doubts. Best of luck and regards!
