Dr says gastritis...anybody have insight? PLEASE ANSWER!!

I have had constant hunger pains. Like a hollow feeling. Mid upper abdomen. Three days constant. Only relieved for a few mins after eating then comes back. On and off prilosec but havr been taking it since this started and hasnt helped. Saw dr today after asking questions where he first thought maybe gallbladder, he said ulcer or gastritis and he bets gastritis. Prescribed protonix. Stook first dose about five hrs ago. Also drank some baking soda water and took pepto and its still there. Not exactly pain, just a gnawing empty feeling even tho i know im not hungry. Anyone ever have this? How long for protonix to kick in? I had nausea this morning too and vomited which is why i went to the dr. No burning really no heartburn. Why didnt the other stuff i did help?  I am a 30 yr old f. My daughters first bday is Saturday and we are having a party for her and also thats my last day of pumping/breast feeding and i have been so excited yet anxious cause of everything that needs done for party but i just feel like crap and cant get motivated because this has me down. Now im not so excitrd because i am so worried about whats wrong with me and why this wont go away.

Have you been tested for H. Pylori? I had the same exact symptoms and the Dr said gastritis! Nothing made me feel better. I was fighting the feeling of always feeling hungry and achy pains that would not let up. I started vomiting and losing weight like crazy... out of frustration and anger I went to the ER! They sent me home with Omeprazole (antiacid)!!  But finally gave me a referral to a GI specialist. Doing my own research about my symptoms and talking with my nurse friend I told them to check me for the bacterial infection, H.Pylori!  It causes the same symptoms as "acid reflex " The test came back positive! They sent me in for a Colonoscopy and Endoscopy a week after finishing my triple antibiotics for the infection that could have killed me! They ended up removing a cancerous polyp from my colon as well as one from my stomach. I am a 28 years old female with no history of cancer in my family. If I listened to the doctor instead of my body I probably would not have caught in stage 1 or been so lucky to survive cancer.

Sure. Thanks. I just find it hard to believe this is anxiety related. I mean the feeling is there, constantly. Cant imagine its my head doing this.

Well, with anxiety I find it may lay low, then reappear with a fresh symptom.  I'd been dealing with anxiety for decades and was surprised at needing to resort to a med (and for a year), to quell my constant stomach aching.

May I message you with a list of links to my earlier posts on this site that containing anxiety coping tips?

I have always been a sort of nervous person. I hate going to the doctors. I have white coat syndrome. But this is new for me, this hunger sensation. Its not pain, but uncomfortable and nagging and constant. Usually when i am anxious and.nervous, my stomach is upset like i couldnt eat even if i wanted to upset. So this is out of the ordinary for me. With that being said, as.i mentioned above my daughter is turning one on Saturday and she is my first child. Breast feeding sidnt work out for me so i had to exclusively pump my milk and give her bottles. She was born at a low weight and we had to keep track of her ozs and such for weight gain. Thr pumping was like an extra full time job. Then she had a flat spot on her head and has had to wear a helmet due to that. She alao had tremors we had to have testing for seizures. Negative and she is healthy. I could attribite stress to all this but all of it was months ago, not current. I don't know. Ugh, i just want some relief

Have you been experiencing nervous tension, worry?  On and off over months, or years?

I think your stomach aching / hungry sort of feeling is an anxiety symptom.

I've had this and needed an anti-anxiety med for a year to overcome it.  I've more anxiety coping tools in my toolkit now, so might be able to avoid the med approach if something similar happened to me again.
