Excessive Burping

I am 16 years old and have been having gas problems. In the pass 3 months I have been burping uncontrolably and at random time. It sometimes stops for a long period of time and then will continue. I have tried tums, maalox, and gas-x. These have sometimes worked and sometimes not. When the do work it is only for a short time. My mom is a pediatric registered nurse and does not know what else to try. (maalox and gas-x were suggested by my pediatrician). If a doctor or someone with medical training could tell me what else I should try or what I should do I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
