Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Loss of Weight

For the pat month now I have felt quite rotten after eating certain foods (usually being greasy). Usually my symptoms would come up in the night around 10 or 11 P.M. I often thought it was bad indigestion but as things worsened I started to question whether it was just indigestion. I finally decided to go to the doctor today. When I went, they did the usual routine and weighed me. For the past couple of weeks, I have been feeling like I have been gaining weight. I even started working out because of it. I have suffered from anxiety issues and have had to cut off caffeine because of anxiety. A couple months ago I lost about 15 pounds. I went from about 190 to 175. The last I weighed was about a month ago and I weighed around 175. When I went to the doctor today, I weighed in at 170, which shocked me. I could have swore I had gained weight back. When I talked to the doctor, I told him my symptoms and he seems to think its Irritable bowel syndrome. He has put me on Prilosec for right now. Still, the weight loss is what's bugging me. I have had blood work done and everything came back perfect and the doctor insists not to worry, but I just don't know why I continue to loose weight. Anyone here had the same issues?

Well, personally I think I've been eating normal. However, I have completely cut off caffeine, only drinking water now, and I didn't start losing weight till I had my first panic attack around the beginning of the year. However, my nerves have been pretty good lately only with the occasional pop up. My mother, a nurse, also seems to think some of the weight loss could be attributed to malabsorption brought on my digestive issues. Again, because of the blood tests, the doc insisted that there should be no need to worry. However, if weight loss continues, I will certainly get a second opinion and blood test done.

Any doctor would be concerned when you start losing weight without trying.  Is it possible that with your indigestion, maybe you're not eating as much as you think?  If you are eating as much as before, and are not trying to lose weight, I would insist that this doctor either get concerned or get a second opinion.
