In 2004 I underwent a total colectomy for torrential diverticular bleeding and also experienced frequent loose motions/diarrhoea etc.
I found that a very high fibre diet helped to reduce the frequency of #2 toilet visits and also caused my motions to become more "muddy/sludgy" rather than almost liquid. As an analogy, imagine you spilled a liquid on the kitchen floor and threw sawdust on the spillage to make it more collectable as a "mud" rather than as a "liquid".
My suggestions for a very high fibre diet would be along the following lines:-
- pulversied fresh fruit to which organic bran has been added
- similarly pulverised fresh vegetables to which organic bran has been added
- add organic bran to yoghurt
- make homemade muesli as a breakfast "cereal" (soak irganic oats in milk, add organic bran, grated fruit, lemon juice, nuts etc). It looks like wet cement but it tasted OK
- only wholemeal organic bread
- the above can be combined with normal meals of meat/fish/vegetables etc
- but no jumk food, white bread, colas etc. Drink ~2 litres of water per day
- and yes - you are allowed the occasional treat of Swiss chocolate!!
This combination enabled my #2 toilet visits to be reduced from perhaps 2-3 during the night and ~10 during the day to ~0-1 during the night and perhaps ~3 during the day.
