Opened Pylera capsule.

My Dr. prescribed me Pylera to treat H-pylori, but i cannot swallow pills. I have opened the capsule and had to mix the contents of it with apple sauce. I would like to know if this is ok, since I could not find any other referrence for my question.

This drug contains tetracycline which can irritate the esophagus and cause ulcerations of that tissue. It should not be opened. There are a variety of other drugs that can be used for H. pylori - more pills in number at each ingestion - so you may want to check with your doc again.

I am in the same situation right now. The pharmacist told me not to open the pylera & the Dr. said it was okay but i do not know anyone who has opened it so i am a bit nervous. Did it effect you to open & take them in apple sauce or was it okay?
