Pain after gall bladder removal

I had my gall bladder removed in 1997 because it wasn't functioning properly. I still get alot of pain in that area - just under my rib cage on the right side going through to my back. I take lansoprazole for acid reflux which helps. Has anyone else had similar problems?

Thanks very much for the advice. I will definately go see my GP as the pain is not going away. Thought it might be a pocket of wind, or all the rich food at Xmas, but surely that would have gone by now. It's so good to have someone to ask about this.

If you're having a lot of pain in that area, you need your doc to investigate further. Many people continue to experience 'gone GB' problems. You can form sludge and stones even without a GB and you can also have changes that occur in the biliary system that can result in discomfort. Ask your doc to give you a script to have liver and pancreatic enzyme levels run within 24 hours of having a bout of several pain. If it is done while you'll feeling decent, it will tell you nothing so it needs to be done after a severe pain bout. Also ask about having an MRCP done.

You may want to keep a small food diary to see if the pain hit more often when you've eaten fatty foods.
