Please help!!! Pain in the left lower abdomen.

Hi there. I am a 29 year old female. Since 6 months I am having an on and off pain in my lower left abdomen. I went to see the gynecologist and she said that the pain has nothing to do with my reproductive system so I went to see a gastroenterologist  and she told me that I need to have a colonoscopy done. I have been on antibiotics on and off the last 4 month because of a very bad root canal infection and I am afraid that I have developed a type of colitis or diverticulitis. I do not have any diarrhea though or any fever.
Did anyone had a similar experience? Any answer would be appreciated.

Although I am a male I have had the same symptons for 20 years. They have found two things. Severe diverticultis and now a narrowing of the sygmoid (spelling??) colon. It is the part that attaches to the rectum.

The best thing is to eat fiber, stay away from a lot of red meats and anyhting with nuts or seeds.

I am having 1/2 of my colon removed this month and this should correct it once and for all. I was surprised to find out that I most likely will NOT have to have a temporary colostomy.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response. I just hope that I have nothing serious. Even though the pain is not very strong and sometimes stops,  I am going for a colonoscopy next week because I want to know what is going on.
Once again thank you, and good luck to you.
