Please help..

Well not really sure where to start…Around four months ago I started to notice unpleasant symptoms such as abdominal pain, severe constipation*I’ve always seemed to have a diarrhea and constipation problem since High School*, drastic changes in stool (sometimes normal, sometimes almost looked like deer scat (pellet or ball shaped), black spots in stool*lately I’ve noticed that*and while wiping small little dots that resemble coffee grounds*, and at other times diarrhea, large passes of mucus*always kind of have had that since High school as well as abdominal pain to an extent*, bloating, and increased amount of hemorrhoids.

Now I’ve only just recently turned Twenty-One and have had to deal with the stress of losing both my parents the past two years and this has seemed to possibly be the cause of making these symptoms more profound. My family has a history of Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and my great grandfather died of colon cancer and my Uncle also had colon cancer around ten years ago.

I saw my physician whom transferred me to the Gastro. ARNP and she said it was most likely IBS. However, I called her once I noticed the dark spots and she seemed concerned (hinted it was most likely Ulcers*  I’ve also had physical symptoms such as joint pain, chronic fatigue, dizziness, anxiety and a feeling of constantly what I’d compare to being intoxicated. Also to note my toes and feet get this crawling and tingling sensation that has always been present, but has become present regularly with the symptoms mentioned above.  I should also point out that my appetite has decreased and show signs of malabsorption.

I’ve checked my Temperature and it varies from 97.8 to 99.0 which are normal, so I don’t seem to have a fever.  Also in High School I went to the ER while on a trip due to severe low ride right abdominal pain and they said it was just constipation. But the pain was so severe it didn’t seem like constipation… I’m not sure what to make of this all and question the IBS diagnosis with practically no testing to rule out other factors. I guess the reason I’m making this post is I’m afraid this is something serious like Colon cancer somehow or Crohn’s disease. I also seem to have a really weird to bread lately and it makes me bloat up severly and almost feels like it's grating past on the way down through my intestines! But I've never had that before. I have GERD but I doubt that is the cause for the new symptoms.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. It’s just hard not having a definitive answer. Also, I went to the ER due to another issue in late July and they ran a complete blood count and the only thing that came up was a slightly low level of potassium which is probably due to my diet.

Thank you in advance!

Thank you for the advice. I will def. ask to be tested or see someone else as soon as possible.

If the gastro person didn't run tests, either go back and ask for testing to be done - including tests for celiac disease and possibly a test for Crohn's/UC such as the Serology 7 - or find another doc and ask to be tested.
