Rotten egg burps, followed by vomiting/diarrhea

Hi everyone,
I'm a young teen and this is my first post. I made an account here for mainly one reason.

About five years ago, I started getting sick at school, usually on mornings. They were usually vomiting, then afterward, diarrhea. Normally I get them once or twice every year.

I'd always thought that it was due to something I ate.

But as I grew older, I noticed that before I vomit, I get burps that taste like rotten eggs. The past few years, they usually happened in the middle of the night to morning. I would wake up with a cold feeling in the upper part of my stomach, below my rib cages. It feels as if it's being pushed together.

I'd then get up thinking that it's a regular stomachache, however I'll feel bloated, and full of gas. About an hour or so, I'll start vomiting non-stop. To stop it, I have to hold my breath and cover the smell because the rotten egg smell induces my vomiting. The smell will slowly go away afterward. Sometimes, following the vomiting is diarrhea.

A few weeks ago, I woke up feeling bad. I burped, rotten eggs smell. I was scared of it. The last time I had it was around 10 months before. (The previous times, whenever I feel the burps, I would stay in the bathroom for a few hours until I finish vomiting) I sat motionless for a while, nothing happened except for the feeling of being bloated. I got up and drank some water. Walked a little more and had to vomit. It might be because of the rotten egg smell.

That last time though, I feel as if I didn't get everything out, but ignored it shortly after because I felt fine then.

But this morning, I woke up with the exact same pains. Refusing to sit by the bathroom waiting to throw up, I surfed the web hoping to get my mind off it. I drank around two cups of warm water. I felt bloated in the upper part of my stomach. All of a sudden there are little sounds from my stomach and I believe whatever's inside had moved to my intestines. Shortly after, I had diarrhea.

When my stomach is finally empty I felt better. But after eating congee and some biscuits, I burp and the rotten egg smell is still there. Now I wonder if the bacteria stays in my stomach until I fill it up with food, then vomit them back out along with the bacteria. Also, this is the first time I've had 2 .. episodes within a month.

I've read some posts about rotten egg burps, most of them suggest throwing up to solve it. I didn't vomit this time, but had diarrhea instead. Does this mean the 'virus' is going to come back soon?

I really want to solve this, instead of waiting for the next time. When I get into college and get a job, it'll be even more annoying .. I don't want rotten egg burps on an examination date!

Also, once I DO get the burps, what do you suggest I do? Is it possible that the 'virus' goes out through stool instead of throwing up?

Thanks.

And are there food suggested for issues like these? I'm going on a 2-day trip tomorrow and surely it'll be annoying if I get sick.

Holy hell.  There are so many of us!!!  I am coming up on 46yo and I have noticed that I have had this for the past few years, but really taking notice of it over the past 18 months or so.  In the beginning, I would get sulphur burps later in the day and then I would tend to get gassy during the night with rolling sounds in my belly when in bed.  About 6 hours between the 2.  Then the diahorrea would start.  I never vomited, but I get that others do simply based on the horrid sulphur smell and taste.  I have noticed that mine is not only sulphur, but really yeasty as well.  Sort of like beer fermenting.

Since having kids (I have 4, the youngest is 3yo), I have suffered with mild heartburn.  This increased substantially 8 months ago to the point that my gullet felt burnt from the acid.  Late last year (about 4 months ago) I had a gastroscopy.  This was mainly to check on the heartburn and that it wasn't a hernia or something more sinister.  I asked the surgeon to check for heliobacter just in case.  He said he did all the time.  Results showed everything normal and no infections.  Bum.

I can go weeks with no attack and then recently I have had days in a row.  Drives me mental.  I have noticed that I haven't been getting the subsequent diahorrea though....I may have just jinxed myself!

Interesting about the possible links to lactose intolerance.  I have never had that, BUT I am a diary farmer (yeah, go figure) and we drink milk straight out of vat.  It is not Lysteria either before anyone asks.  And our milk is tested daily so I know what the cell counts are in it.  But of course, it is chocka full of lactose!!

Given that everything in my scope was normal, the surgeon recommended that I stay on my gastro meds for as long as I like.  I am on 40mg Nexium (1 x day).  I ran out the other day though and missed a couple of doses.  And noe have the burps.  Maybe it is linked.  I had horrid heartburn yesterday and today as well.

Bugger it all.....I would just like to get it under control.  If I find anything that works for me, I'll post.

i have a remedy that will work for everyone. i am 27 and i have had this since i was a little kid.

1. it is a bacteria in your stomach that came off something you have eaten.

2. it can be triggered by eating with dirty hands, such as after changing a diaper.  you may have poo in your fingernail and if you do not notice, it may get in your food and you swallow it.  that is an example.

3. it can be triggered by oral and analingus or like i said just some bad food from mcdonalds.

4. the only real remedy for this is. once you start to know that it is coming , say a night before, take some antiacid and it will counter most of the sickness.
also, keep puking as much as possible. stick your finger down your throat if possible, if you can't, then every time you do puke eat an antiacid. the diarrhea is just something to deal with but feels great getting out that bacteria you digested. the longer you leave the stuff in your stomach the longer it takes to go away. puke literally until you are puking up stomach acid and take another tums. now that your stomach is empty, you won't he digesting all that nasty bacteria sitting in your stomach and the tums fights away all the nasty **** left behind. the longer your stomach has food in it the longer the sickness will last, if you don't want to puke then take a bunch of tums and it'll take 24-48 hours to go away.

deal with it during the process but this will make it go away quicker.

also, after puking eat more, let the bacteria soak into the new food and then puke it out. it helps clear out the dirty stomach acid bacteria

trust me on this. do what i said and you cut your sickness 3/4 the length

what did you find out you were allergic to? Asking because my husband had these symptoms over 20 years and has been tested for EVERYTHING that you can test   except allergy testing. it is so random. He could have 3 bouts in a month and then go 8 months completely fine and then a week later have another and a month later dealing with it again..etc. Doctors don't think it is an allergy because he doesn;t change his diet much and so over 8 months he had to have ate just about everything. thanks

I am happy and sad at the same time to find a place to get answers regarding this stuff.  I woke up yesterday with sulfer burps and then very watery diarrhea.  I am super nauseous but have not vomitted yet. Was hoping this would pass after a few hours. No such luck!  Every time I eat I have diarrhea and sulfer burps. I am so tired and nervous to sleep and mess the bed.  I have been drinking Gatorade due to my stomach turning at trying to drink water.  Has anyone found true safe remedies for this? I work in a shelter and think I may have come into contact there. Held a few kids hands and didn't wash my own (I was not thinking) and now this is the result. I have no desire to spend hours in the ER but I am considering it if this doesn't let up. Help to anyone with answers.

Thanks

Thanks so much to everyone who has posted. Comparing symptoms & triggers can be so helpful.  First time I ever had this, age 44 & female, was one week ago. Ate a lot of junk food that day & woke up at 1 AM with the burps and horrible diarrhea. Put myself on a brat diet, seems to fix it.  Then I stupidly ate more junk food yesterday & gets started all over again.  Haven't had a gallbladder for 15 years. On omeprazole for severe acid reflux.  Wondering about the lactose intolerance and or bacteria possibilities. Well truthfully post back if or when I figure mine out. :-) Good luck to everyone.

I am having a bout of this crap right now! I have had these since I was a young child and I am now 44. I had it figurd out as a food allergy, and I think I have it pegged again. It's chocolate and anything with high fluctose syrup. It has taken me 4 years to figure this out....It starts with slight nausea, folowed by those nasty vile egg burps, thn bloating and growling of my stomach, actually the growling is gas moving u and down. I try to fart as much as possible, then severe nausea and someties I puke and someties I dont. It takes about 18 hours for the rotten egg burps to stop then I am nauseated for 3 days then its over... I wish for death ost of the time.. I found laying on my back helps, using an ice pack on my stomach also helps. Not moving and avoiding burping is also a big help... This is the 3rd time in 4 days..
