Sudden onset of cramps and flatulence

HI,

Wanted to ask a quick query. Have recently lost a lot of weight via good diet and exercise....over 8 months I have lost around 40 Kgs. Just recently (10 days ago) I suddenly started to get a lot of gas after meals and also cramps down in my lower abdomen. Now I have had an abdominal Ultrasound and all is fine, I annually ( 5 months ago) have a faecal stool scan for blood in the stool (Bowel Cancer Screeneing program) and that was clear. I am having regular motions (daily) and no evidence of constipation or loose motions or blodd in stool. The only tangible thing going on in my life is a lot of stress due to work pressures....surely that could not manifiest itself in such a manner. I am trying to understand what could be causing this and why it came on all of a sudden.
Can you suddenly become allergic to wheat or gluten?? Can you get an infection or bacteria in your lower bowel that could cause such a thing..
My GP does not feel that a colonscopy is warranted as I do not have any family history, I have had clear stool scans for over 5 years and I eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. SHould I insist on a colonscopy??

From doing reasearch on my own GI issues... I have come across information that many food allergies surface in a person's adult years. Celiac Disease (adversion to wheat products) is common along with Lactose Intolerance. Hormonal changes can also have an impact on this...

Stress definietly plays a huge role in Gastric issues and is acutally inter-connected with certain syndroms like IBS. Stress also weakens your immune system and makes you more receptable to picking up certain "bugs."

Certain foods are more known for producing gas, and gas can lead to cramps...

I suggest keeping a log of what you been eating as well as what activites you are doing and how you are feeling at them time and see if you can find a correlation between what's going on with you and the cramps. If problems persist I recommend getting your GP to refer you to a Gastroenterologist.
