What to eat

My wife 55 yrs old, had a partial bowel blockage and the blockage was resolved and she was sent home after 4 days in the hospital. I don't know what might have caused this as she has not had a problem like this before. 5 days prior to the blockage she started taking a new prescription for high blood pressure and fast heart rate called Toviaz 8 Mg a day. Now that I have her home what should she be eating as I assume it will take some time to heal the area of the blockage and I know she needs nutrients, Vitamins and protein. Right now she is quite weak and seems to be some what confused, I am assuming this is because she had nothing to eat or drink for the 4 days they had the tube in her stomach. Also what should I watch out for as I assume it can happen again now that she had it once. She was in great pain and vomiting before. Right now because she is only using liquids she has diarrhea and is going quite often. Any advice will be greatly appreciated as I know nothing about this.

Thanks

Well we finally got to see a Dr. and it doesn't look like she had a blockage however she has a fatty liver and they did test on that this past week and we are waiting for the results. I will keep you advised as to any results. Hoping for the best.

They did not know what caused the blockage. She did not have surgery and infact they are now saying they are not sure she had a blockage. She has an appointment with a gastroenlogist and they are going to do a scope on both ends to find out underlying problem. I will get bcak with you when I get the findings from that. Thanks for the response.

I've had more experience with this than I care to remember.  What was the reason for her blockage, this is very important to know.  Blockages always have an underlying cause which needs to be addressed.  The hospital should have told you what her diet should be.  It would help if you could tell me what caused her blockage, and if she didn't have surgery, she can eat whatever she wants.  But it sounds like she may be dehydrated with the diarrhea and confusion, so get some orange juice and gatorade in her to replenish her electrolytes immediately. I would start out with soups, jello, scarmbled eggs and then anything should be fine.  Please let me know what caused her blockage. Thanks.
