Different people react differently to meds and anesthesia.  Most aneshtesiaologists give you something through your IV before going into surgery to help prevent nausea and vomiting.  Somtimes they also have you drink something that will also do the same thing.

It's very normal and common to be groggy when you come out of anesthesia, but it usually is not too bad and goes away relatively quickly.  of course, again, everyone is different, and it also depends on how long you've been under anesthesia.

Keep in mind, too, that any pain medication they may give you after surgery could possibly make you feel nauseated and/or cause vomiting, so you may want to ask if they are also able to give you something to help with that.

My best advice is to just take it slow after surgery - not only when it comes activity level, but also when it comes to eating and drinking.  Start off slowly with just sips of something like ginger ale or jello and gradually work on up from there - this will be a lot easier on your stomach and could help you avoid any nauseas feeling.

Best of luck with the surgery!

I have had three procedures, two where I got sedation and one where I got general anesthesia.  Waking up from sedation the first time I felt tired and groggy but no nausea.  The second time I got sedation I got a different type and I woke up groggy and hallucinating.  I was nauseous, however part of the procedure was waking up with a tube down my throat into my small intestines to make some measurements so I don't know whether I would have been nauseous without the tube.  With the general anesthesia I woke up very quickly and was not groggy and I was not nauseous, just in a lot of pain.  Hope that helps.
