asymptomatic gallstones

gallbladder is physiologically  distended with mutiple anechoric and shadowing subcentimeter gallstones. also 3 to 4 mm polyp . no gallbladder wall thickening or  pericholecystic fluid .  this was found thru ulltrasound  before having a colonoscopy i have no syptoms or problems related to the gallbladder. my gastroligist left it at that. my md is referring me to a surgeon. my gastrologist said to call if any problems. prefer not having any surgery if not necessary. do you think having surgery is a wise thing to do if no symptoms or even being aware i had gallstones if not for routine ultrasound.

My tests all came back negative. They couldn't confirm it was a bad gallbladder until after they went in to take it out.  The surgeon told me it was because my gallbladder was what is called, "strawberry gallbladder".  If the internest is suggesting going in even though the tests say neg?  I hope you will consider that this dr may know something about the human body.
Good luck.

Asymptomatic gallstones are tricky. There are risks to keeping the GB there, like having a small stone get stuck in the bile duct and causing pancreatitis, but otherwise it's not something to really worry about.

The polyp, however, is another matter. This alone merits the removal of the GB, since the polyp may prove to be cancerous, or be a gateway for GB cancer. Not likely, but even the possibility should be of concern.

I hate to say it, but you may indeed be better off if you remove the gallbladder.
