thanks so much for answering its all been quite a worry as i have been pretty ill and my bloods are showing a number of things too , hate all the waiting x
Fosterchick, everything that gets to the terminal ileum has to move onward to get through the whole of the colon and then out. So I don't know why anyone would say it shouldn't go past..................?
A little bit of reflux back into the small intestine isn't unusual. A lot of people have this happen, but it's not really supposed to happen.
Numbers of individuals have discomfort in the area of the terminal ileum and it can be due to a variety of issues. If they can rule out anything that would signify any form of pathology, then you might consider checking into whether it could be a 'mechanical' issue. There are several ligaments in that area that hold the 'whole complex' in place. If anything should happen to torque or disturb the structural components - like adhesions or the like - it's possible that could be the source of the discomfort. If it turns out that adhesions are the cause, check into visceral manipulation. It's an osteopathic modality that may be able to give you some relief.
is all of this normal ? x docs have been saying the area of my pain is the ileum ,thanks so much for getting back to this , sdome are saying barium shudnt go past the terminal ileum others say this is fine ? x
The barium did get into the small intestine (bowel) as it should. When the barium reached the end of the small intestine, it flowed from there into the large intestine (cecal area) but a small bit 'refluxed' back into the small intestine. Evidently it continued to flow into the large intestine (as it should) based upon the wording. There was some residual stool found in the ascending colon.
