confused...

About 2days ago i ate 15-25 round peppermint hard candies on an empty stomach and woke up with a mild case of heart burn. i haven't ate all that much since then besides water and small bites of food. my stomach is a little upset. kind of hard to eat food ya know. my front portion of my tongue is a little sensitive and dry, also and the roof of my mouth is also a little sore. i also have thick slimy mucus or saliva. Don't know if this helps but i also quit smoking about 2 or 3 days ago as well. now the dryness and such only started to be noticeable yesterday and like i said its a dryness and not so much of a pain. Guess my question is if i have anything to be concerned about like tongue or throat cancer?

Peppermint will weaken your LES, the lid on your stomach that keeps the acid in. If you had a bunch of peppermint on an empty stomach you're bound to get some heartburn, especially if you smoke. (Even if you quit just a few days ago, the effects of smoking on your LES and UES (lower and upper esophageal sphincters) will still be present. That is, they will both be weakened still.)

Basically you ate a bunch of stuff that is known to cause heartburn and you got heartburn. You also used to have a habit that is known to dull (burn) the nerves, cause damage to your throat, and cause heartburn, and now that your throat is healing, you feel the heartburn. The acid went all the way up to your tongue and caused all the thick mucus, raw feeling surfaces. This may indicate a condition known as LPRD (related to GERD).

Recommendation: stop eating peppermints. In fact, try following a GERD diet now that you've stopped smoking. Your body will need time to heal. As far as cancer is concerned, that's always something to pay attention to, so I'd go see a doctor about that. If this feeling continues, request an EGD just to make sure things there are OK.

Good luck.

I think the mucus and sores are just from not smoking and allergies are bad now too.
So that might be part of it.
Since you havent gone to the bathroom tho since the candies,
that lax. I just told u about might help some today, ya know?

the problems developed practically over night, never had a strange cough or soar throat. but for a day and a 1/2 i have had the urge to cough, i have a soar throat, my mouth is a little dry and i have 1 or 2 smalls soars on my tongue. This is not also not eating anything for a day after those 20 peppermint candies. just curious if i should be worried or not. i also feel the need to swallow spit or mucus from my nose but nothing comes. but other wise i have had no other swallowing problems.
