He never told me how long it took for him to recover.  But, I do know that he is still going strong.  I knew you needed to know that kind of information for such a major surgery.  You have your young age in your favor, though.

Transit time varies a lot among people, you yourself has mentioned 300 minutes as emptying time of your small bowel...

I do know someone who had a total colectomy done many years ago when he was a young man.  His was done because of colon cancer.  Obviously, the cancer is long gone.  I didn't even know about this for quite some time after I first knew him.  Guess what?  Now he is an old man!  This is actually very good news indeed!

Thanks for the message back!
I have already had a colonoscopy done! and ive also had a defecating proctogram, and another nerve test on my anal!
it all shows that my colon is dead and all the nerves have stopped working,
Yes i do eat Extremely healthy!!!! so its not a diet matter!, l'm a full time dancer!.
i'm not in a relationship! so lm not stressed either!

No i dont use my bowels so my colon does not work, im am taking numerous of appearances to try and use my bowels, but yet nothing still works, lm also taking cisapride- (propulsid) for my stomach!
we have exausted every option my Gastroenterologist has made sure of that!, i've been in hospital for 2 weeks and had every test possible done and the result is that i can never be cured! but having the colon taken out will help because its not going to get any better, cause its just dead!
The surgeon is going to be operation on me on monday!
do u know how long the transit time is for the small bowel??
and i was wondering are you a Gastroenterologist?
thanks for your response!
and hope to hear from you soon :)

Colonoscopy with biopsy was done?

Do you have an exact diagnosis, is there a nerve problem, was Hirschprung's disease mentioned?

Have you had problems as a child or when did they start? Do you feel anxious or depressed in general, under stress..? Did you have good and bad times regarding emptying the bowel?

Mood and food may greatly affect the bowel habit and this can be changed a lot...If something bothers you all the time...it may affect bowel movements.

You do have bowel movements, right? So your colon does work somewhat. I guess this is what it is called "lazy colon". I would try everything..from rigorous diet trials to considering changing something in relationships or life attitudes...just mentioning what are common causes of severe constipation.

It's NOT good doing big life decisions when you're not in peace with the desicion. You can have colonoscopy at any time and you can't get your colon back after its  removal.

i have had this problem for many years and its getting worse!
symptoms, are that i always feel sick, bloated, never able to use my bowels, and vomiting,
i have had all the tests down on my bowel
the nuclear medicine transit study study was done and it showed that my stomach takes 2-3 times as long to empty, my small bowel is taking over 300 minutes to empty and my colon is completely not working , ive gone to see an surgeon he said that i can never be cured because of the small bowel and stomach, but having the Laparoscopic total colectomy, will help!
what do you think?, thanks for writing back to me

Bellachick..be sure to make a decision in peace.

You would need to say what are your symptoms, when did they start...what exactly test showed, etc..
