My boyfriend had his entire pancreas removed but hasn’t needed insulin?

He had his entire pancreas removed and was told he will be insulin dependent (insulin shots). The surgeon said that he will NOT need ANY insulin UNLESS his numbers are ABOVE 200.
It’s been 25 weeks...he checks his blood sugar numerous times a day and NOT ONCE has he needed to give himself a shot. His levels are consistently between 100-190.
He lost 60 pounds since his surgery. Shortly after he eats - he “runs” to the bathroom. He eats a little and poops a lot!
Has anyone ever heard of not needing insulin after an ENTIRE pancreas is removed?
